VER. 42.

Γενομένης δὲ ἡμέρας, ἐξελθὼν ἐπορεύθη εἰς ἔρημον τόπον, καὶ οἱ ὄχλοι ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν, καὶ ἦλθον ἕως αὐτοῦ, καὶ κατεῖχον αὐτὸν τοῦ μὴ πορεύεσθαι ἀπ' αὐτῶν.

And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.

[And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. And Simon and they that were with him followed after him. And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee, Mark i. 35—37.]·

VER. 43.

Ὁ δὲ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς· Οτι καὶ ταῖς ἑτέραις πόλεσιν εὐαγγελίσασθαί με δεῖ τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ· ὅτι εἰς τοῦτο ἀπέσα ταλμαι.

And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.

[And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also : for therefore came I forth, Mark i. 38.]

VER. 44.

Καὶ ἦν κηρύσσαν ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς τῆς Γαλιλαίας.

And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.

CHAP. V. VER. 1. Εγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ τὸν ὄχλον ἐπικεῖσθαι αὐτῷ τοῦ ἀκούειν τὸν λόγον τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν ἑστὼς παρὰ τὴν λίμνην Γεννησαρέτ·

And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word VOL. II.

aAnd Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter, and they that were with him, said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? Luke viii. 45. In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy, xii. 1. And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him, Mark iii. 9. And Jesus went with him, and much people followed him, and thronged him, v. 24.

VER. 2.

Καὶ εἶδε δύο πλοῖα ἑστῶτα παρὰ τὴν λίμνην· οἱ δὲ ἁλιεῖς ἀποβάντες ἀπ ̓ αὐτῶν, ἀπέπλυναν τὰ δίκτυα.

And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

Εμβὰς δὲ εἰς ἓν τῶν πλοίων ὃ ἦν τοῦ Σίμωνος, ἠρώτησεν αὐτὸν ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς ἐπαναγαγεῖν ὀλίγον· καὶ καθίσας ἐδίδασκεν ἐκ τοῦ πλοῖου τοὺς ὄχλους.

And he entered into one of the ships, a which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

deep, and let down your nets for a spake, and said unto him that stood draught.

VER. 5.

Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Σίμων, εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Επιστάτα, δι ̓ ὅλης τῆς νυκτὸς κοπιά- | σαντες, οὐδὲν ἐλάβομεν· ἐπὶ δὲ τῷ ῥήματί | σου χαλάσω τὸ δίκτυον.

And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

VER. 6.

Καὶ τοῦτο ποιήσαντες, συνέκλεισαν ἶχε θύων πλῆθος πολύ· διεῤῥήγνυτο δὲ τὸ δίκα τυον αὐτῶν·

And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

VER. 7.

Καὶ κατένευσαν τοῖς μετόχοις τοῖς ἐν τῷ ἑτέρῳ πλοίῳ, τοῦ ἐλθόντας συλλαβέσα θαι αὐτοῖς· καὶ ἦλθον, καὶ ἔπλησαν ἀμφότερα τὰ πλοῖα, ὥστε βυθίζεσθαι αὐτά.

And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

VER. 8.

Ἰδὼν δὲ Σίμων Πέτρος, προσέπεσε τοῖς γόνασι τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, λέγων· Εξελθε ἀπ ̓ ἐμοῦ, ὅτι ἀνήρ ἁμαρτωλός είμι, Κύριε

When Simon Peter saw it, a he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

before me, 0 my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength. For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me, Dan. x. 16, 17.

leprosy; who seeing Jesus, fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. [And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean: And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them, Matt. viii. 2-4. And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed. And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away; And he saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man : but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them, Mark i. 40-44.]

VER. 13.

Καὶ ἐκτείνας τὴν χεῖρα, ἥψατο αὐτοῦ, εἰπών· Θέλω, καθαρίσθητι. Καὶ εὐθέως ἡ λέπρα ἀπῆλθεν ἀπ ̓ αὐτοῦ.

And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.

VER. 14.

Καὶ αὐτὸς παρήγγειλεν αὐτῷ μηδενὶ εἰπεῖν· ἀλλὰ ἀπελθὼν δεῖξον σεαυτὸν τῷ ἱερεῖ, καὶ προσένεγκε περὶ τοῦ καθαρισμού σου, καθὼς προσέταξε Μωσῆς, εἰς μαρτύ ριον αὐτοῖς.

And he charged him to tell no man : but go, and shew thyself to the Priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

VER. 15.

Διήρχετο δὲ μᾶλλον ὁ λόγος περὶ αὐτοῦ· καὶ συνήρχοντο ὄχλοι πολλοὶ ἀκούειν, καὶ ἡ θεραπεύεσθαι ὑπ' αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τῶν ἀσθενειῶν αὑτῶν.

a But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: band great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.

[But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter, Mark i. 45.]

VER. 16.

Αὐτὸς δὲ ἦν ὑποχωρῶν ἐν ταῖς ἐρήμοις, καὶ προσευχόμενος.

And a he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

VER. 17.

Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν μιᾷ τῶν ἡμερῶν, καὶ αὐτ τὸς ἦν διδάσκων· καὶ ἦσαν καθήμενοι Φαρισαῖοι καὶ νομοδιδάσκαλοι, οἳ ἦσαν ἐληλυθότες ἐκ πάσης κώμης τῆς Γαλιλαίας, καὶ Κυρίου ἦν εἰς τὸ ἰᾶσθαι αὐτοὺς. Ἰουδαίας, καὶ Ἱερουσαλήμ· καὶ δύναμις

And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were a Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judæa, and Jerusalem: b and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

VER. 18.

Καὶ ἰδοὺ, ἄνδρες φέροντες ἐπὶ κλίνης ἄναὐτὸν εἰσενεγκεῖν, καὶ θεῖναι ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ. θρωπον ὃς ἦν παραλελυμένος· καὶ ἐζήτουν

a And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.

[And, behold, they brought to him aman sick of the palsy, lying on a bed, Matt. ix. 2. And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four, Mark ii. 3.1

VER. 19.

Καὶ μὴ εὑρόντες διὰ ποίας εἰσενέγκωσιν αὐτὸν, διὰ τὸν ὄχλον, ἀναβάντες ἐπὶ τὸ δῶμα, διὰ τῶν κεράμων καθῆκαν αὐτὸν σὺν τῷ κλινιδίῳ εἰς τὸ μέσον ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ Ἰησοῦ.

And when they could not find by what | way they might bring him in because of the multitude, a they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling, with his couch, into the midst before Jesus.

[And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay, Mark ii. 4.]

A. D. 31. thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?

Ἵνα δὲ εἰδῆτε ὅτι ἐξουσίαν ἔχει ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἀφιέναι ἁμαρ τίας, (εἶπε τῷ παραλελυμένῳ) Σοὶ λέγω, Εγειραι, καὶ ἄρας τὸ κλινίδιόν σου, που ρεύου εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου.

VER. 25.

Καὶ παραχρῆμα ἀναστὰς ἐνώπιον αὐτ τῶν, ἄρας ἐφ ̓ ᾧ κατέκειτο, ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὑτοῦ, δοξάζων τὸν Θεόν.

And immediately he rose up before

them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, a glorifying God.

* And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.

[But when the multitude saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto | men, Matt. ix. 8. They were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion, Mark ii. 12.]

VER. 27.

Καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἐξῆλθε, καὶ ἐθεάσατο τελώνην ὀνόματι Λευῒν, καθήμενον ἐπὶ τὸ τελώνιον, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· ̓Ακολούθει μοι.

And after these things he went forth, and saw a Publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.

[And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom : and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him, Matt. ix. 9. Καὶ ἐποίησε δοχὴν μεγάλην ὁ Λευὶς αὐ τῷ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ αὑτοῦ· καὶ ἦν ὄχλος τελωνῶν πολὺς, καὶ ἄλλων οἳ ἦσαν μετ ̓ αὐτῶν και TaxelμevoL.

And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of Publicans and of others that sat down with them.

[And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many Publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples, Matt. ix. 10. And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many Publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him, Mark ii. 15.]

VER. 30.

Καὶ ἐγόγγυζον οἱ Γραμματεῖς αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ, λέγοντες· Διατί μετὰ τελωνῶν καὶ ἁμαρτ τωλῶν ἐσθίετε καὶ πίνετε ;

But their ascribes and Pharisees b murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with Publicans and sinners?

[And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with Publicans and sinners, Matt. ix. 11. And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with Publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with Publicans and sinners? Mark ii. 16.]

VER. 31.

Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς, εἶπε πρὸς αὐτ τούς· Οὐ χρείαν ἔχουσιν οἱ ὑγιαίνοντες ἰατ¦ ροῦ, ἀλλ ̓ οἱ κακῶς ἔχοντες.

And Jesus answering a said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.
