And he suffered them. 33 Then the demons went out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. 34 When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. 35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man out of whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. 36 They also who saw it, told them by what means he that was possessed by the demons was healed. 37 Then the whole multitude of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes, besought him to depart from them: for they were taken with great fear. And he went into the boat, and returned. 38 Now the man out of whom the demons had departed, besought him that he might be with him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 Return to thy own house, and show how great things God hath done to thee. And he went away and published throughout the whole city, how great things Jesus had done to him. 40 And it came to pass, that, when Jesus had returned, the people gladly received him for they were all waiting for him. 41 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at the feet of Jesus, and besought him that he would come into his house: 42 For he had one daughter only, about twelve years of age, and she lay dying. IX. 1 Christ sendeth his apostles to work miracles, and to preach. 7 Herod desireth to set Christ. 13 Christ feedeth five thousand: 18 inquireth what opinion the world had of him; foretelleth his death: 23 proposeth to all the pattern of his patience. 2 The transfigur ation. 37 he healeth the lunatic: 43 again forewarneth his disciples of his death: 46 commendeth humility: 51 biddeth them to show mildness towards all, without desire of revenge. 57 Divers would follow him, but upon conditions. TH HEN he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. 2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. 3 And he said to them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staffs, nor bag, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. 4 And into whatever house ye enter, there abide, and thence depart. 5 And whoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. 25 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? 26 For whoever shall be ashamed of all that was done by him: and he was Mark 14. 1. me, and of my words, of him will the perplexed, because that it was said by some, that John had risen from the dead; Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in that of his 8 And by some, that Elijah had ap- Matt. 14.13. Bring thy son hither. 42 And as he was yet coming, the demon threw him down, and tore him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father. 43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they were all wondering at all things which Jesus did, he said to his disciples, 44" Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man will be Idelivered into the hands of men. 45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him concerning that saying. 46. And it came to pass when the demon was gone out, the dumb spoke; and the people wondered. 15 But some of them said, & He casteth out demons through Beelzebub, the chief of the demons. |
