SEVENTEEN SERMONS, BY THE REV. HUGH MC NEILE, A. M. RECTOR OF ALBURY, SURREY, CHAPLAIN TO HIS EXCELLENCY THE LORD LIEUTENANT OF IRELAND, AND TO HIS GRACE THE ARCHBISHOP OF DUBLIN. THE LOVE OF CHRIST CONSTRAINETH US."- -2 COR. v. 14. LONDON: JOHN HATCHARD AND SON, 187, PICCADILLY. 1825. PREFAСЕ. THE sermons in this volume are addressed to those only who receive the Scriptures as a revelation from God. Their author highly values the more learned labours of some of his brethren, by whom every objection adduced against the divine origin of our Religion, has (in his judgment) been more than once unanswerably refuted. But amongst those persons who have never harboured any objection of this description, and who consequently do not feel themselves concerned or interested in arguments addressed to sceptics, many are still ignorant of the first principles of the oracles of God; and amongst those who are well instructed in the contents of the sacred volume, many are but little (if at all) influenced by what they profess to believe. |
