SINCE the appearance of the first edition of this book, the rabbit fancy, like all else, has made great progress; our knowledge of the then recognised varieties has been vastly increased, and a new variety has even been created, established, and brought to the foremost place in popular favour. The original work of the late Mr. Rayson has been universally accepted as the standard book on fancy rabbits, but it became somewhat deficient by reason of the advancement referred to, and thus it was necessary that it should be thoroughly revised and brought down to the present time, if it was to maintain its position. The present extended edition of "Rabbits for Prizes and Profit" is the effort to fulfil that requirement; and although, unhappily, the revision could not be carried out by the author, the editor trusts that he has not been altogether unsuccessful, for whilst he has endeavoured to retain, with as little alteration as possible, all that Mr. Rayson had written for that is substantially as accurate now as it was when first penned he has added to it such facts and information as time has developed, and, as a feature of special interest, the views of many eminent breeders and exhibitors.
