MANY judicious persons were decidedly of the opin ion that the welfare of community required the publication of a work like the one here presented. It was thought that the public ought to be put in possession of facts, sufficient to enable them to form a correct judg ment, in relation to the moral character of the Society which has lately arisen under the auspices of Mr. John H. Noyes. It was also deemed important that the pernicious principles, propagated by Mr. Noyes and his coadjutors, should be exhibited in such a manner that their immoral tendency and ultimate ruinous results might be clearly seen.
