O GOD, from Whom all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works do proceed, give unto us Thy servants that peace which the world cannot give; that both our hearts may be set to obey Thy commandments, and also that by Thee, we being defended from the fear of our enemies, may pass our time in rest and quietness; through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

ALMIGHTY GOD, to Whom the night is as clear as the day, behold us again encompassed with darkness and infirmity, and receive us into Thy loving care. May our sleep be sweet, and undisturbed by calamity or alarm. May all who are dear to us, whether under this roof or elsewhere, share Thy sure protection, and, sleeping or waking, be evermore with Thee. When, in Thy good time, we shall come to sleep the sleep of death, comfort us with Thy Presence, and take our souls to rest and peace; for the merits of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.

TUESDAY MORNING.-FIFTH WEEK.

I

PSALM CXI.

WILL give thanks unto the Lord with my whole heart; secretly among the faithful, and in the congregation.

The works of the Lord are great; sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.

His work is worthy to be praised, and had in honour; and his righteousness endureth for ever.

The merciful and gracious Lord hath so done his marvellous works that they ought to be had in remembrance.

He hath given meat unto them that fear him; he shall ever be mindful of his covenant.

He hath shewed his people the power of his works; that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.

The works of his hands are verity and judgement; all his commandments are true.

They stand fast for ever and ever; and are done in truth and equity.

He sent redemption unto his people; he hath commanded his covenant for ever; holy and reverend is his Name.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all they that do thereafter: the praise of it endureth for ever.

Let us pray.

ALMIGHTY AND Everlasting GOD, Who hatest nothing that Thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all them that are

penitent, create and make in us new and contrite hearts; that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of Thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALMIGHTY GOD, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which Thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when He shall come again in His glorious Majesty to judge the quick and dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through Him Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, now and ever. Amen.

O GOD, the Sovereign Disposer of all things, Who dost set for men the bounds of their habitation, teach us to see Thy hand in the ordering of our own lot in life, and help us thankfully to acquiesce in it. May we neither repine at our own circumstances, nor envy others theirs. Remembering the account which we must all give at the last, let it be our chief concern to fill our several places well, and to please Thee, our Lord and Master. Help us to acquit ourselves as Thy good and faithful servants, this day; sincerely seeking to know Thy will; ever ready to be kind and helpful to those among whom our lot is cast; and always mindful of that coming night when no man can work. When Thy summons comes, may we de part in peace, and rest with Thee; for our Lord Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

O LORD OUR Heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God, Who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day, defend us in the same with Thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings may be ordered by Thy

governance, to do always that is righteous in Thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

OUR FATHER which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses; As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

TUESDAY EVENING.-FIFTH WEEK.

PSALM CXII.

LESSED is the man that feareth the Lord; he hath great
delight in his commandments.

B man that feare
В

His seed shall be mighty upon earth; the generation of the faithful shall be blessed.

Riches and plenteousness shall be in his house; and his righteousness endureth for ever.

Unto the godly there ariseth up light in the darkness; he is merciful, loving, and righteous.

A good man is merciful, and lendeth, and will guide his words with discretion.

For he shall never be moved; and the righteous shall be had in everlasting remembrance.

He will not be afraid of any evil tidings; for his heart standeth fast, and believeth in the Lord.

His heart is established, and will not shrink; until he see his desire upon his enemies.

He hath dispersed abroad, and given to the poor, and his righteousness remaineth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.

The ungodly shall see it, and it shall grieve him; he shall gnash with his teeth, and consume away: the desire of the ungodly shall perish.

Let us pray.

Lord have mercy upon us.

Christ have mercy upon us.
Lord have mercy upon us.

Amen.

O LORD, we beseech Thee favourably to hear the prayers of Thy people; that we who are justly punished for our offences may be mercifully delivered by Thy goodness, for the glory of Thy Name; through Jesus Christ our Saviour, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end.

Amen.

O BLESSED SAVIOUR, Who hast invited the weary and heavy-laden to come to Thee for rest, mercifully receive us who now, at Thy bidding, come. May we find rest to our souls, reconciled to God through Thy mediation, and washed from all defilement in Thy precious blood. Give rest to our bodies and minds, in peaceful sleep, under Thy loving care. In all our dangers and necessities, O Lord Jesus, be our Rock and Refuge, our Friend and Guide, till the last danger shall
