FRIDAY MORNING.-FIFTH WEEK.

I

PSALM CXLII.

CRIED unto the Lord with my voice; yea, even unto the
Lord did I make my supplication.

I poured out my complaints before him, and shewed him of my trouble.

When my spirit was in heaviness thou knewest my path; in the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me.

I looked also upon my right hand, and saw there was no man that would know me.

I had no place to flee unto, and no man cared for my soul. I cried unto thee, O Lord, and said, Thou art my hope, and my portion in the land of the living.

Consider my complaint; for I am brought very low.

O deliver me from my persecutors; for they are too strong for me.

Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks unto thy Name; which thing if thou wilt grant me, then shall the righteous resort unto my company.

Let us pray.

O LORD, we beseech Thee favourably to hear the prayers of Thy people; that we, who are justly punished for our offences, may be mercifully delivered by Thy goodness; for the glory of Thy Name, through Jesus Christ our Saviour, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

O LORD GOD, Who art nigh unto all them that call upon Thee faithfully, hear, we pray Thee, our present cry and help us. Order for us our steps this day, and dispose us to walk uprightly. Into all our occupations may we carry a pure intention, and an honest endeavour to be and to do what Thou pleasest. For difficulties and trials of temper may we be prepared by Thy all-sufficient grace; and for every conquest made, and every duty done, may we gratefully give Thee the praise. That the hours, as they pass, may see us usefully employed, and the day's close may shew the proofs that we have not laboured in vain, we beseech Thee to hear us, good Lord; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

O GOD, forasmuch as without Thee we are not able to please Thee, mercifully grant that Thy Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALMIGHTY GOD, Who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplications unto Thee, and dost promise that when two or three are gathered together in Thy Name Thou wilt grant their requests; fulfil now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of Thy servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of Thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.

OUR FATHER which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses; As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

FRIDAY EVENING.-FIFTH WEEK.

L

PSALM CXLI.

ORD, I call upon thee, haste thee unto me; and consider my voice when I cry unto thee.

Let my prayer be set forth in thy sight as the incense; and let the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice.

Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; and keep the door of my lips.

O let not mine heart be inclined to any evil thing; let me not be occupied in ungodly works with the men that work wickedness, lest I eat of such things as please them.

me.

Let the righteous rather smite me friendly, and reprove

But let not their precious balms break my head; yea, I will pray yet against their wickedness.

Let their judges be overthrown in stony places; that they may hear my words, for they are sweet.

Our bones lie scattered before the pit; like as when one breaketh and heweth wood upon the earth.

But mine eyes look unto thee, O Lord God; in thee is my trust, O cast not out my soul.

Keep me from the snare that they have laid for me; and from the traps of the wicked doers.

Let the ungodly fall into their own nets together; and let me ever escape them.

Let us pray.

Lord have mercy upon us.

Christ have mercy upon us.

Lord have mercy upon us.

Amen.

O LORD, we beseech Thee, absolve Thy people from their offences; that through Thy bountiful goodness we may all be delivered from the bonds of those sins which, by our frailty, we have committed. Grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ's sake, our blessed Lord and Saviour. Amen.

O LORD God, Who hast been the Refuge of Thy people in all generations, open, we pray Thee, Thine arms of mercy to us who now make our supplication before Thee. To whom should we come but unto Thee, O Lord? Weak, we look to Thee for strength. Beset with temptations and fears, we beseech Thee to strengthen and defend us. Guilty and unclean, we plead the Propitiation for sin which Thou hast set forth in Thy blessed Son; and we plead also Thy gracious promise to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Behold us, O Lord, with Thy gracious favour, amidst the darkness and dangers of the approaching night; and be our all-sufficient Defence, keeping us from evil, and renewing all our powers of body and mind. Should it ever please Thee that the sun of our life be darkened through trouble and sorrow, humble us beneath Thy chastening hand,

hold us up lest we fall, and in due time make our darkness to be light. In life's last hour, when heart and flesh fail, and all human aid is unavailing, let Thy grace be sufficient for us, and our end be peace. Graciously crown the mercies of our lifetime with the power worthily to praise their Giver in the life everlasting; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

ALMIGHTY GOD, the Fountain of all wisdom, Who knowest our necessities before we ask, and our ignorance in asking, we beseech Thee to have compassion upon our infirmities; and those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask, vouchsafe to give us; for the worthiness of Thy Son Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.
