the gracious protection of another night, and for the blessings of returning day, receive our thanks, and make them more fervent and heart-felt. Help us to express our gratitude in our lives, this day; hearkening for Thy voice and following whithersoever it shall lead us. Fed by Thy bounty and kept by Thy care, may we aim to glorify Thee in our bodies and spirits which are Thine; through the help of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

GRANT, we beseech Thee, Almighty God, that like as we do believe Thy only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to have ascended into the heavens, so we may also, in heart and mind, thither ascend, and with Him continually dwell, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, One God, world without end. Amen.

O LORD JESUS CHRIST, Who hast loved us from the foundation of the world, and hast laid down Thy life for us, inspire us, we beseech Thee, with a strong and abiding love to Thee. Let it be shewn in reverence for Thy holy Name and a ready obedience to Thy commands. Should the love of other things, at any time gain the chief place in our hearts, recall us, O Saviour, by Thy blessed Spirit, to our rightful allegiance, and our place at Thy side. May neither this nor any day of our lives pass unmarked by some proofs of our hearts' loyalty to Thee our gracious Head, Whom, with the Father and the Holy Ghost, we honour and worship, one God, world without end. Amen.

OUR FATHER which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses; As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

THURSDAY EVENING.-FIRST WEEK.

PSALM XIII.

Ow long wilt thou forget me, O Lord, for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

HOW

How long shall I seek counsel in my soul, and be so vexed in my heart? how long shall mine enemies triumph over me?

Consider, and hear me, O Lord my God; lighten mine eyes, that I sleep not in death.

Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; for if I be cast down, they that trouble me will rejoice at it.

But my trust is in thy mercy, and my heart is joyful in thy salvation.

I will sing of the Lord, because he hath dealt so lovingly with me; yea, I will praise the Name of the Lord most

Highest.

Let us pray.

Lord have mercy upon us.

Christ have mercy upon us.

Lord have mercy upon us.

Amen.

O LORD GOD, how manifold are Thy mercies unto Thy servants! How great is the sum of them! Our lives derived from Thee, and ordered by Thy fatherly care, have been crowned with lovingkindness and tender mercies. That we have been less mindful of our blessings, and less thankful for them, than we ought, we have with shame to confess. For this, and all our other sins and negligences, we now implore Thy pardon. And we humbly beseech Thee from henceforth, with all Thy other gracious gifts to us, to give us an honest and good heart, that we receive not Thy grace in vain. With our lips, and in our lives, may we be ever shewing our gratitude to Thee; and so be daily preparing for the everlasting service of love and praise in Thy Presence, with all Thy Saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALMIGHTY AND EVERLASTING GOD, Who dost govern all things in heaven and earth, mercifully hear the supplications of Thy people, and grant us Thy peace all the days of our life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

LORD of all power and might, Who art the Author and Giver of all good things, graft in our hearts the love of Thy Name, increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness, and of Thy great mercy keep us in the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O EVER-BLESSED LORD GOD, look in compassion upon us who desire to close this day at peace with Thee, and to commend ourselves and our friends to Thy gracious care through the silent hours of the coming night. In Thy loving guardianship may we all repose. Untroubled and refreshing let the hours of darkness be to us; and may returning light

find us thankful for all our blessings, trusting in the Lord JEHOVAH, and ready to every good work. When our earthly course is run, and our wearied heads are laid for the last sleep, may our Father's hand support us, and ours be perfect peace; through the merits and mediation of Thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.

FRIDAY MORNING.—FIRST WEEK.

T

PSALM XIX.

`HE heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth his handiwork.

One day telleth another; and one night certifieth another. There is neither speech nor language, but their voices are heard among them.

Their sound is gone out into all lands, and their words into the ends of the world.

In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun; which cometh forth as a bridegroom out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a giant to run his course.

It goeth forth from the uttermost part of the heaven, and runneth about unto the end of it again; and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

The law of the Lord is an undefiled law, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, and giveth wisdom unto the simple.

The statutes of the Lord are right, and rejoice the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, and giveth light unto the eyes.

The fear of the Lord is clean, and endureth for ever; the judgements of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.

More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey, and the honeycomb.

Moreover, by them is thy servant taught; and in keeping of them there is great reward.

Who can tell how oft he offendeth? O cleanse thou me from my secret faults.

Keep thy servant also from presumptuous sins, lest they
