get the dominion over me; so shall I be undefiled, and innocent from the great offence.

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be alway acceptable in thy sight,

O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

Let us pray.

O GOD, merciful Father, that despisest not the sighing of a contrite heart nor the desire of such as be sorrowful, mercifully assist our prayers that we make before Thee, in all our troubles and adversities whensoever they oppress us; and graciously hear us, that those evils which the craft and subtlety of the devil or man worketh against us, be brought to nought; and by the providence of Thy goodness, they may be dispersed; that we, Thy servants, being hurt by no persecutions, may evermore give thanks unto Thee in Thy holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O ALMIGHTY GOD, Who alone canst order the unruly wills and affections of sinful men, grant unto Thy people that they may love the thing which Thou commandest, and desire that which Thou dost promise; that so among the sundry and manifold changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O GOD, Who art everywhere present, and Who knowest all the ways of men, be favourable, we beseech Thee, to all who this day travel by land or by water, and especially to such of them as are in any special manner connected with ourselves. Let all worthy undertakings prosper, and all who pursue them be brought safely whither they desire to be. May those who journey with hearts burdened by calamity or the dread of it, find Thy pity on their way, and peace and rest in Thy good time. Keep them all safe amidst the perils of the way; and teach

them how good it is to go out and come in, with God for their Protector and Guide. Through the great journey of life itself let Thy Presence go with us, and give us rest in heaven at last; through Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Amen.

O EVERLASTING LORD GOD, from Whom we all proceed, and to Whom we must return, help us, we beseech Thee, to live this day as in Thy sight. Make us diligent in business, fervent in spirit, serving Thee. May we steadfastly resist all temptation to evil, and live in the love and practice of whatever is good. In all our intercourse with others may we shew a Christian spirit, and recommend godliness of living. And may we reach the end of this day, if Thy Providence so permit, with a good conscience, in thankfulness of heart, and looking for Thy mercy unto eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

OUR FATHER which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses; As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

FRIDAY EVENING.-FIRST WEEK.

PSALM XX.

HE Lord hear thee in the day of trouble, the Name of

the God of Jacob defend thee;

Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Sion

Remember all thy offerings, and accept thy burnt-sacrifice; Grant thee thy heart's desire, and fulfil all thy mind. We will rejoice in thy salvation, and triumph in the Name of the Lord our God: the Lord perform all thy petitions.

Now know I, that the Lord helpeth his Anointed, and will hear him from his holy heaven; even with the wholesome strength of his right hand.

Some put their trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we will remember the Name of the Lord our God.

They are brought down, and fallen; but we are risen, and stand upright.

Save, Lord, and hear us, O King of heaven, when we call upon thee.

Let us pray.

Lord have mercy upon us.

Christ have mercy upon us.
Lord have mercy upon us.

earth, as it is in And forgive us

And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

O HEAVENLY FATHER, be pleased to receive us graciously who again approach Thee in prayer. Remember not against us our sins and failures, but pardon and accept us for the sake of Thy well-beloved Son, our merciful Redeemer. Filled with His Spirit, and guided by His Example, may we hereafter more successfully resist temptation, and keep clear of sin. Shew us our own weakness, and incline us to seek strength from Thee. Animate us with a growing love of all that is good and true; and towards Thyself, Who art all goodness and truth, evermore draw us. Rooted and grounded in the love of

God and man, may we have our fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALMIGHTY GOD, Who seest that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves, keep us both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our souls; that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O LORD, we beseech Thee, let Thy continual pity cleanse and defend Thy Church; and because it cannot continue in safety without Thy succour, preserve it evermore by Thy help and goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

INTO Thy loving hands, O Lord, we commend ourselves and all dear to us this night. Distant or near, may we all share Thy regard, and all be safe in Thy keeping. Preserve our habitations from disturbance, harm, or loss; supply refreshment and strength to our bodies; and keep our souls in peace. When a new day dawns, may we hasten to renew our gratitude and service to Thee, the gracious Giver of all good. Ever mindful of the Hand that keeps us, and fashioning our lives day by day as obedient children, may we, in Thy good time, come to the fulness of joy, and the perfect service of the life immortal in Thy Presence; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.

PSALM XV.

ORD, who shall dwell in thy tabernacle; or who shall rest upon thy holy hill?

Even he that leadeth an uncorrupt life; and doeth the thing that is right, and speaketh the truth from his heart.

He that hath used no deceit in his tongue, nor done evil to his neighbour; and hath not slandered his neighbour.

He that setteth not by himself, but is lowly in his own eyes, and maketh much of them that fear the Lord.

He that sweareth unto his neighbour, and disappointeth him not, though it were to his own hindrance.

He that hath not given his money upon usury, nor taken reward against the innocent.

Whoso doeth these things, shall never fall.

Let us pray.

ALMIGHTY GOD, Who commandest all men to repent, and promisest pardon to the penitent, of Thy great mercy remember not our offences, nor the offences of our forefathers; neither take Thou vengeance of our sins: Spare us, good Lord, spare Thy people whom Thou hast redeemed by the precious blood of Thy dear Son, and be not angry with us for ever, for the sake of the same Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Lord. Amen.

BLESSED LORD, Who didst, when upon earth, command Thy disciples to gather up the fragments, that nothing should be lost, we implore Thy help to turn to the best account what yet remains of this fast-closing week. Our work each day falls so far short of our bounden duty and our good intentions, that the
