may love the thing which Thou commandest, and desire that which Thou dost promise; that so among the sundry and manifold changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God, the Strength of all them that put their trust in Thee, mercifully accept our prayers; and because, through the weakness of our mortal nature, we can do no good thing without Thee, grant us the help of Thy grace, that in keeping of Thy commandments we may please Thee both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

OUR FATHER which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses; As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

TUESDAY EVENING.-THIRD WEEK.

PSALM LXXI. VERSE 15.

HOU, O God, hast taught me from my youth up until

THO

now; therefore will I tell of thy wondrous works.

Forsake me not, O God, in mine old age, when I am greyheaded; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to all them that are yet for to come.

Thy righteousness, O God, is very high; and great things are they that thou hast done; O God, who is like unto thee?

O what great troubles and adversities hast thou shewed me! and yet didst thou turn and refresh me; yea, and broughtest me from the deep of the earth again.

Thou hast brought me to great honour, and comforted me on every side.

Therefore will I praise thee and thy faithfulness, O God, playing upon an instrument of music; unto thee will I sing upon the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.

My lips will be fain when I sing unto thee; and so will my soul whom thou hast delivered.

My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long; for they are confounded and brought unto shame that seek to do me evil.

Let us pray.

Lord have mercy upon us.

Christ have mercy upon us.
Lord have mercy upon us.

Amen.

O LORD OUR HEAVENLY FATHER, receive to Thy loving favour us who are now suppliant at Thy feet. Examining ourselves, we become conscious of things done which should not have been, and omissions to do what ought to have been done; and we implore Thy pardon for all. Purge our consciences from every stain; remember our sins no more; and

give us the peace which Thou hast promised in Thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

O GOD THE KING OF GLORY, Who hast exalted Thine only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph unto Thy Kingdom in heaven, we beseech Thee leave us not comfortless; but send to us Thine Holy Ghost to comfort us, and exalt us unto the same place whither our Saviour Christ is gone before, Who now liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

O LORD GOD, Who seest that we put not our trust in anything that we do, mercifully grant that by Thy power we may be defended against all adversity; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O ALMIGHTY GOD, Who hast promised that Thy people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting-places, breathe, we pray Thee, Thine own peace into our midst this night. May our dwelling be secure in Thy keeping, and the quiet of our place of rest be unbroken. When returning day shall lift the covering of darkness from our abode, may the peace of Thy Presence still remain to us as our abiding possession. If trouble should come and enemies threaten, give us, even then, the perfect peace of those whose minds are stayed on Thee. When all conflict is past, and the last enemy overcome, receive us, O Lord, to the peace, unbroken and eternal, of heaven; through Him Who is the Prince of Peace and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.

WEDNESDAY MORNING.-THIRD WEEK.

PSALM LXXVII. TO VERSE II.

WILL cry unto God with my voice; even unto God will I cry with my voice, and he shall hearken unto me.

In the time of my trouble I sought the Lord; my sore ran, and ceased not in the night-season; my soul refused comfort. When I am in heaviness, I will think upon God; when my heart is vexed, I will complain.

Thou holdest mine eyes waking; I am so feeble, that I cannot speak.

I have considered the days of old, and the years that are past.

I call to remembrance my song; and in the night I commune with my own heart, and search out my spirits.

Will the Lord absent himself for ever, and will he be no more intreated?

Is his mercy clean gone for ever, and is his promise come utterly to an end for evermore?

Hath God forgotten to be gracious, and will he shut up his loving-kindness in displeasure?

the

And I said, It is mine own infirmity; but I will remember years of the right hand of the most Highest.

Let us pray.

O LORD, Who dwellest on High, unto Thee do we this morning lift up our voice, and make our earnest supplication. For ourselves and for one another, we implore the pardon of all our sins, and Thy help to lead better lives hereafter than we have led hitherto. Mercifully supply to us, as heretofore, all things needful for our souls and bodies, and a more thankful

remembrance of the Source whence all our blessings flow. Help us hourly to employ our time and talents well; to walk worthy of our Christian profession before others; and ever to be prepared for our great account at Thy bar; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

O GOD, Who knowest us to be set in the midst of so many and great dangers, that by reason of the frailty of our nature we cannot always stand upright, grant to us such strength and protection as may support us in all dangers, and carry us through all temptations; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O HEAVENLY FATHER, Who delightest in mercy, and hast sent Thy blessed Son into the world to shew us the way of doing good, be pleased to bless all the good deeds done by Thy servants everywhere, to mitigate human suffering and advance human welfare. Upon all Hospitals for the relief of the sick, and all Institutions for the support and well-being of the weak and helpless, let the eye of Thy favour rest. Increase the number of the friends and helpers of such agencies, and strengthen the hands of those who are working for their success. Accept, O Lord, and bless the offerings of private charity; and may the many kind deeds done in secret rise to heaven as a grateful memorial before God. May the love of doing good be more widely spread, and the reign of peace and goodwill be established; through the mediation and work of Him Who laid down His life for us all, Thy Son Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

PREVENT US, O Lord, in all our doings with Thy most gracious favour, and further us with Thy continual help; that in all our works, begun, continued, and ended in Thee, we may glorify Thy holy Name, and finally by Thy mercy obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
