Rev. MR. CHEESEMAN :

ROCHESTER, October 1847.

Dear Sir-Having listened to your several lectures on the differences between what is termed "OLD AND NEW DIVINITY," with no little degree of interest, and believing that their publication at this time, will do great good to the cause of truth in Western New-York,-we would therefore, very respectfully, ask of you the same for publication.

While we remain,

GABRIEL LONGMUIR,

ALEX. LONGMUIR,
ROBERT PENNEY,
ANGUS MCDONALD,
JAMES HUTCHINSON,
T. B. FORSYTH,

Truly and Respectfully, Yours.
DONALD CAMPBELL,
IRA COOK,

ROBERT FINLEY,

DAVID HUTCHINSON,
E. DARROW,

M. BALDWIN.

GENTLEMEN :

At your request, I send you the discourses on the differences between Old and New School Presbyterians, and as they were at first prepared for the pulpit and not for the press; I have concluded to omit the formalities with which they were delivered, and to present them in an abridged form, lest they should occupy too much space to be patiently read.

With an earnest desire that they may provoke examination and promote the peace, unity and purity of the Church,

I remain Gentlemen, Respectfully,
