Isaiah liii. 3—6.-He is despised and rejected of men,
a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and
we hid, as it were, our faces from him : he was
despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath
borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows : yet we
did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflict-
ed. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he
was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of
our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are
healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we
have turned every one to his own way, and the Lord
hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
SERMON VI.
ON THE CONNEXION BETWEEN REGENERATION AND
OTHER DOCTRINES OF THE GOSPEL.
John iii. 1-3.—There was a man of the Pharisees,
named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. The same
came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi,
we know that thou art a teacher come from God;
for no man can do these miracles that thou doest,
except God be with him. Jesus answered and said
unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a
man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of
God.
