ἕτερον ἀκαταπάυτοις είμασι, και ασιγήτες. Θεολογίαις, ἢ ἐπινίκιον και τρισάγιον ὕμνον τ έδοντα, βοώνα, δοξολογῶνα, κεκραγότα λέγονα τῇ μεγαλοπρεπεί σε δόξῃ,

+ So it is allo in Lit. Chry/. and Baf. But Lit. Mar. has only "Αγιος, "Αγιος, "Αγιος, Κύριος Σαβαώθ· πλήρης ὁ ἐρανὸς ἡ γῆ τ' αγίας σε δόξης. And then the Prieft fubjoins, πλήρης [γάρ] ἐςιν ὡς ἀλη θῶς ὁ ἐρανὸς, καὶ ἡ γῆ τὸ ἁγίας σε δόξης διὰ δ' ἐπιφανείας·

The Angels, Archangels, Thrones, Dominions, Principalities, Authorities, Powers, and the many-eyed Cherubim, praise Thee; before Thee stand round the Seraphim, each of them with fix Wings, who with twain cover their Faces, with twain their Feet, and with twain they fly, crying one to another with never-ceafing Voices, and uninterrupted Shouts of Praise, finging the triumphal Hymn, fhouting, crying aloud, and saying,

In Lit. Syr. terribilis, bonus, cum unigenito filio tuo, qui paffionum particeps fuit, & maxime propter hominem figmentum tuum, quem e terra formafti, & conceffifti illi delicias paradifi: terrible, good, together with thy only begotten Son, who became paffible, and that for the fake of Man the Workmanship of thy Hands, whom thou didst form out of the Earth, and gaveft him the Delights of Paradife.

* Why I have omitted καὶ ὁμοίωσιν, and Likenes, will appear from Origen. cont. Celf. l. 4. p. 180. εἰ μέν τοι ἐγνώκει [Κελσ] διαφορὰν τῷ κατ ̓ εἰκόνα θεᾶ γε[ονέναι τὸν ἄνθρωπον, πρὸς τὸν καθ' ὁμοίωσιν. καὶ ὅτι ανα Γέγραπται εἰρηκέναι ὁ Θεὸς, Ποιήσωμεν ἄνθρωπον κατ' εἰκόνα καὶ ὁμοίωσιν ἡμετέραν· ἐποιησε δὲ ὁ Θεὸς τὸν ἄνθρω που κατ' εἰκόνα Θεῦ, ἀλλ' ἐχὶ καὶ καθ ̓ ὁμοίωσιν ἤδη. If [Celfus] had known the Difference betwixt Man's being made after the Image of God, and being after bis Likeness; and that it is written that God faid, Let us make Man after our Image and Likeness; and God made Man after the Image of God, but and after bis Likeness is not now added. And thus alfo it will better anfwer to what comes afterwards in this Hymn, ἵνα ἐλθὼν τὴν σὴν ἀνανεώσῃ εἰκόνα, that by his coming he might renew thy Image in us, without any mention of ὁμοίωσιν Likenes.

Though it be thus alfo not only in Lit. Syr. but in Lit. Mar. yet fince the Apoftle, Gal. iii. afcribes the raidalwyla Pedagogy to the Law, I would rather incline to read it ἐπαιδαγώρησας αὐτὸν διὰ νόμε, ἐκάν λέσας αὐτὸν [or rather ἐλάλησας αὐτῷ, Heb. i.] δικ τῶν προφητῶν, κνain him up by the Pedagogy of the Law, and recal him [or rather, peak unto him by the Pra phets; or yet more fimply, ἐπαιδαγώγησας αὐτὸν διὰ κόμα και προφητῶν ; and train him up by the Pedagogy of
