That they have served this purpose in hundreds of schools the letters that have come in from every direction testify. This volume gives them a more convenient form, and makes them available as a side-help for literature classes. The articles will be continued in The School Bulletin, and will be reprinted annually in volumes like this, until the list embraces the best-known names in American literature.
