that he rent his Clothes, and put Sackcloth upon his Flesh, and fasted and lay in Sackcloth, and went foftly.

28 And the Word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, faying,

29 Seeft thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the Evil in his Days: but in his Son's Days will I bring the Evil upon his Houfe.

CHA P. XXII.

1 Ahab feduced by falfe Prophets, according to the Word of Micaiah, is flain at Ramoth-Gilead: 37 The Dogs lick up his Blood, and Abaziah fucceedeth him. 41 Jehoshaphat's good Reign, 45 and Acts. 50 Fehoram fucceedeth him. 51 Ahaziah's evil Reign.

Ver. 1 AND they continued three Years without War be

tween Syria and Ifrael.

2 And it came to pafs in the third Year, that Jehofhaphat the King of Judah came down to the King of Ifrael.

3 (And the King of Ifrael faid unto his Servants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we be ftill, and take it not out of the Hand of the King of Syria?)

4 And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to Battle to Ramoth-Gilead? And Jehoshaphat faid to the King of Ifrael, I am as thou art, my People as thy People, my Horfes as thy Horfes.

5 And Jehoshaphat faid unto the King of Ifrael, Enquire, I pray thee, at the Word of the LORD To-day.

6 Then the King of Ifrael gathered the Prophets together, about four hundred Men, and faid unto them, Shall I go against Ramoth-Gilead to Battle, or fhall I forbear? And they faid, Go up, for the LORD fhall deliver it into the Hand of the King.

7 And Jehoshaphat faid, Is there not here a Prophet of the LORD befides, that we might enquire of him?

8 And the King of Ifrael faid unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one Man (Micaiah the Son of Imlah) by whom we may enquire of the LORD, but I hate him, for he doth not prophefy Good concerning me, but Evil. And Jehoshaphat faid, Let not the King fay fo.

9 Then the King of Ifrael called an Officer, and faid, Haften hither Micaiah the Son of Imlah.

10 And the King of Ifrael, and Jehoshaphat the King of Judah, fate each on his Throne, having put on their Robes, in a void Place, in the Entrance of the Gate of Samaria, and all the Prophets prophefied before them.

II And Zedekiah the Son of Chenaanah made him Horns of Iron, and he said, Thus faith the LORD, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until thou have confumed them.

12 And all the Prophets prophefied fo, faying, Go up to Ramoth-Gilead, and profper: for the LORD fhall deliver it into the King's Hand.

13 And the Meffenger that was gone to call Micaiah, fpake unto him, faying, Behold now, the Words of the Prophets declare Good unto the King with one Mouth: let thy Word, I pray thee, be like the Word of one of them, and speak that which is good.

14 And Micaiah faid, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD faith unto me, that will I fpeak.

15 So he came to the King, and the King faid unto him, Micaiah, fhall we go against Ramoth-Gilead to Battle, or fhall we forbear? And he anfwered him, Go, and profper for the LORD fhall deliver it into the Hand of the King.

16 And the King faid unto him, How many Times fhall adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the Name of the LORD?

17 And he faid, I faw all Ifrael fcattered upon the Hills, as Sheep that have not a Shepherd. And the LORD faid, These have no Mafter, let them return every Man to his House in Peace.

18 And the King of Ifrael faid unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophefy no Good concerning me, but Evil?

19 And he faid, Hear thou therefore the Word of the LORD: I faw the LORD fitting on his Throne, and all the Host of Heaven standing by him, on his Right hand, and on his Left.

20 And the LORD faid, Who fhall perfuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-Gilead? And one faid on this Manner, and another faid on that Manner.

21 And there came forth a Spirit, and ftood before the LORD, and faid, I will perfuade him.

22 And

1

22 And the LORD faid unto him, Wherewith? And he faid, I will go forth, and I will be a lying Spirit in the Mouth of all his Prophets. And he faid, Thou shalt perfuade him, and prevail alfo: Go forth, and do fo.

23 Now therefore behold, the LORD hath put a lying Spirit in the Mouth of all these Prophets, and the LORD hath spoken Evil concerning thee.

24 But Zedekiah the Son of Chenaanah went near, and fmote Micaiah on the Cheek, and faid, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?

25 And Micaiah faid, Behold, thou fhall fee in that Day when thou shalt go into an inner Chamber to hide thyself.

26 And the King of Ifrael faid, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the Governour of the City, and to Joafh the King's Son :

27 And fay, Thus faith the King, Put this Fellow in the Prison, and feed him with Bread of Affliction, and with Water of Affliction, until I come in Peace.

28 And Micaiah faid, If thou return at all in Peace, the LORD hath not fpoken by me. And he faid, Hearken, O People, every one of you.

29 So the King of Ifrael, and Jehoshaphat the King of Judah went up to Ramoth-Gilead.

30 And the King of Ifrael faid unto Jehofhaphat, I will difguife myfelf, and enter into the Battle, but put thou on thy Robes. And the King of Ifrael difguifed himfelf, and went into the Battle.

31 But the King of Syria commanded his thirty and two Captains that had Rule over his Chariots, faying, Fight neither with Small nor Great, fave only with the King of Ifrael.

32 And it came to pafs when the Captains of the Chariots faw Jehofhaphat, that they faid, Surely it is the King of Ifrael. And they turned afide to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.

33 And it came to pafs, when the Captains of the Chariots perceived that it was not the King of Ifrael, that they turned back from pursuing him.

34 And a certain Man drew a Bow at a Venture, and fmote the King of Ifrael between the Joynts of the Harnefs: wherefore he faid unto the Driver of his Chariot, Turn thine Hand, and carry me out of the Hoft, for I am Wounded.

35 And the Battle increased that Day: and the King was stayed up in his Chariot against the Syrians, and died at Even and the Blood ran out of the Wound into the midft of the Chariot.

:

36 And there went a Proclamation throughout the Hoft, about the going down of the Sun, faying, Every Man to his City, and every Man to his own Countrey.

37 So the King died, and was brought to Samaria, and they buried the King in Samaria.

38 And one washed the Chariot in the Pool of Samaria, and the Dogs licked up his BLOOD, and they washed his Armour, according unto to the WORD of the LORD which be fpake.

39 Now the reft of the Acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the Ivory House which he made, and all the Cities that he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Ifrael?

40 So Ahab flept with his Fathers, and Ahaziah his Son reigned in his ftead.

41 And JEHOSHAPHAT the Son of ASA began to reign over Judah in the fourth Year of Ahab King of Israel.

42 Jehoshaphat was thirty and five Years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five Years in Jerufalem and his Mother's Name was Azubah the Daughter of Shifhi.

:

43 And he walked in all the Way of Afa his Father, he turned not aside from it, doing that which was RIGHT in the Eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high Places were not taken away; for the People offered and burnt Incenfe yet in the high Places.

44 And Jehoshaphat made Peace with the King of Ifrael.

6 And faid to the Judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for Men, but for the LORD, who is with you in the JUDGMENT.

7 Wherefore now let the FEAR of the LORD be upon you, take heed and do it: for there is no Iniquity with the LORD our GOD, nor Refpect of Perfons, nor taking of Gifts.

8 Moreover, in Jerufalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the Priefts, and of the chief of the Fathers of Ifrael, for the Judgment of the LORD, and for Controverfies, when they returned to Jerufalem.

9 And he charged them, faying, Thus fhall ye do in the FEAR of the LORD, FAITHFULLY, and with a PERFECT Heart.
