32 Until I come and take you away to a Land like your own Land, a Land of Corn and Wine, a Land of Bread and Vineyards, a Land of Oyl-olive, and of Honey, that ye may live and not die and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he perfuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver

us.

33 Hath any of the Gods of the Nations delivered at all his Land out of the Hand of the King of Affyria?

34 Where are the Gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the Gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine Hand?

35 Who are they among all the Gods of the Countries that have delivered their Countrey out of mine Hand, that the LORD fhould deliver Jerufalem out of mine Hand?

36 But the People held their peace, and anfwered him not a Word: for the King's Commandment was, faying, Answer him not.

37 Then came Eliakim the Son of Hilkiah, which was over the Houfhold, and Shebna the Scribe, and Joah the Son of Afaph the Recorder, to Hezekiah with their Cloaths rent, and told him the Words of Rab-fhakeh.

II. KINGS, CHA P. XIX.

Hezekiah mourning, fendeth to Ifaiah to pray for them. 6 Ifaiah comforteth them. 8 Sennacherib going to encounter Tirhakah, fendeth a blafphemous Letter to Hezekiah: 14 His Prayer. 20 Ifaiah his Prophecy of the Pride and DeftruEtion of Sennacherib, and the Good of Zion. 35 An Angel fayeth the Affyrians. 36 Sennacherib is flain at Nineveh by

his own Sons.

Ver. 1

AND it came to pafs when King Hezekiah heard

it, that he rent his Cloaths, and covered himfelf with Sackcloth, and went into the Houfe of the LORD. 2 And he fent Eliakim; and Shebna, and the Elders of the Priests, covered with Sackcloth, to Ifaiah the Prophet.

3 And they faid unto him, Thus faith Hezekiah, This Day is a Day of Trouble, and of Rebuke and Blafphemy; for the Children are come to the Birth, and there is not Strength to bring forth.

See Ifaiah xxxvi, xxxvii

4 It may be the LORD thy GOD will hear all the Words of Rab-shakeh whom the King of Affyria hath fent to reproach the living GOD; and will reprove the Words which the LORD thy GOD hath heard: Wherefore lift up THY PRAYER for the Remnant that are left.

5 So the Servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

6 And Ifaiah faid unto them, Thus fhall ye fay to your Mafter, Thus faith the LORD, Be not AFRAID of the Words which thou hast heard, with which the Servants of the King of Affyria have BLASPHEMED me.

7 Behold, I will fend a BLAST upon him, and he shall hear a Rumour, and fhall return to his own Land, and I will caufe him to fall by the Sword in his own Land.

8 So Rab-shakeh returned, and found the King of Affy ria warring against Libnah.

9 And when he heard fay of Tirhakah King of Ethiopia, Behold, he is come out to fight against thee: he fent Meffengers again unto Hezekiah, faying,

10 Thus fhall ye fpeak to Hezekiah: Let not thy God in whom thou trufteft, deceive thee, faying, Jerufalem fhall not be delivered into the Hand of the King of Affyria.

11 Behold, thou haft heard what the Kings of Affyria have done to all Lands, by deftroying them utterly and fhalt thou be delivered?

12 Have the Gods of the Nations delivered them which my Fathers have deftroyed; as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the Children of Eden which were in Thelafar?

13 Where is the King of Hamath, and the King of Arpad, and the King of the City of Sepharvaim, of Henah, and Ivah?

14 And Hezekiah received the Letter, and read it and Hezekiah went up into the Houfe of the LORD, and fpread it before the LORD.

15 And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and faid, O LORD GOD of Ifrael, which dwelleft between the Cherubims, thou art the GOD, even thou ALONE of all the Kingdoms of the Earth, thou haft made Heaven and Earth.

16 LORD, bow down thine Ear, and hear: Open, LORD, thine Eyes, and fee: And hear the Words of Sennacherib which hath fent him to reproach the living God. Dddd

17 Of

17 Of a truth, LORD, the Kings of Affyria have deftroyed the Nations, and their Lands,

18 And have caft their Gods into the Fire: for they were no Gods, but the Work of Mens Hands, Wood and Stone therefore they have deftroyed them.

19 Now therefore, O LORD our GOD, I befecch thee, SAVE thou us out of his HAND, that all the Kingdoms of the Earth may KNOW that THOU art the LORD GOD,

even THOU ONLY.

20 Then Ifaiah the Son of Amos fent to Hezekiah, faying, Thus faith the LORD GOD of Ifrael, That which thou haft prayed to me against Sennacherib King of Affyria, I have heard.

21 This is the Word that the LORD hath spoken concerning him, The Virgin of the Daughter of Zion hath defpifed thee, and laughed thee to Scorn, the Daughter of Je rufalem hath fhaked her Head at thee.

22 Whom haft thou reproached and blafphemed? and against whom haft thou exalted thy Voice, and lift up thine Eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Ifrael.

23 By thy Messengers thou haft reproached the LORD, and haft faid, With the multitude of my Chariots I am come up to the height of the Mountains, to the fides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall Cedar-trees thereof, and the choice Fir-trees thereof:

• Pfal. xviii. 1 I will love thee, O LORD, my STRENGTH.

2 The LORD is my Rock, and my FORTRESS, and my DELIVERER, my GOD, my STRENGTH in whom I will TRUST, my Buckler, and the Horn of

my SALVATION, and my high Tower.

3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be PRAISED: fo fhall I be faved from mine Enemies.

6 In my DISTRESS I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my GoD: He heard my Voice out of his Temple, and my CRY came before him,

even into his Ears.

14 He fent out his Arrows, and SCATTERED them; and he shot out Lightnings, and difcomfited them.

16 He fent from Above, he took me, he drew me out of many Wa ters.

17 He delivered me from my STRONG ENEMY, and from them

which hated me: for they were too STRONG for me.

18 They prevented me in the Day of my Calamity: but the LORD was my stay.

27 For thou wilt fave the afflicted People but wilt bring down high Looks.

30 As for God, his Way is PERFECT: the WORD of the LORD is tried: he is a BUCKLER to all thofe that TRUST in him.

31 For who is GOD fave the LORD?

or who is a Rock fave our GOD?

47 It is God that AVENGEth me, and fubdueth the People under me.

48 He delivereth me from mine above thofe that rife up against me: ENEMIES yea, thou lifteft me up thou haft delivered me from the vi OLENT Man.

49 Therefore will I give Thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the Heathen: and fing Praises unto thy Name.

and I will enter into the Lodgings of his Borders, and into the Foreft of his Carmel.

24 I have digged and drunk ftrange Waters, and with the Sole of my Feet have I dried up all the Rivers of befieged Places.

25 Haft thou not heard long ago, how I have done it, and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to país, that thou fhouldeft be brought to lay wafte fenced Cities into ruinous Heaps.

his Anointed, to David, and to his Seed for evermore.

Pfal. cxv. 1 Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy NAME give GLORY, for thy Mercy. and for thy Truth's Sake.

2 Wherefore fhould the Heathen fay, Where is now their GOD?

3 But our GoD is in the HEAVENS, he hath done whatsoever he pleased. 4 Their IDOLS are Silver and Gold, the Work of Mens Hands.

8 They that make them, are like unto them, fo is every one that trusteth in them.

9 O Ifrael, truft thou in the LORD: he is their HELP and their SHIELD.

7 Gon is greatly to be feared in the Affembly of the Saints and to be had in Reverence of all them that are about him.

13 Thou haft a mighty Arm: ftrong is thy Hand, and high is thy Right Hand.

18 For the LORD is our DEFENCE:

26 Therefore their Inhabitants were of small Power, they were difmayed, and confounded, they were as the Grafs of the Field, and as the green Herb, as the Grafs on the Houfe-tops, and as Corn blafted before it is grown up.

and the Holy One of Ifrael is our KING.

27 But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy Rage against me.

28 Because thy Rage against me, and thy Tumult is come up into mine Ears, therefore I will put my Hook in thy Nofe, and my Bridle in thy Lips, and I will turn thee back by the Way by which thou camest.

29 And this fhall be a Sign unto thee, Ye fhall eat this Year fuch Things as grow of themselves, and in the fecond Year that which fpringeth of the fame, and in the third Year fow ye and reap, and plant ye Vineyards, and eat the Fruits thereof.

30 And the Remnant that is escaped of the House of Judah, fhall yet again take root downward, and bear Fruit upward.

31 For out of Judah fhall go forth a Remnant, and they that escape out of Mount Zion: the Zeal of the LORD of Hofts fhall do this.

32 Therefore thus faith the LORD concerning the King

of Affyria, He fhall not come into this City, nor shoot an Arrow there, nor come before it with Shield, nor caft a Bank against it.

33 By the Way that he came, by the fame fhall he return, and shall not come into this City, faith the LORD. 34 For I will defend this City to fave it, for mine own Sake, and for my Servant David's Sake.

35 P And it came to pass that Night, that the ANGEL of the LORD went out, and fmote in the Camp of the Affyrians, an HUNDRED FOURSCORE AND FIVE THOUSAND: and when they arofe early in the Morning, behold, they were all dead Corpfes.
