Forgery of the quarto. [Barcelona, 1493] (Florence, 1891) 16 0 0 One of the two or three forgeries fabricated by swindlers in imitation of the genuine quarto letter in the Ambrosian library. Of this forgery five copies were struck off; of the other two forgeries probably the same number, or perhaps less. In any case there must be about a dozen such things in existence, most of them perhaps in South America; and it is worth while preserving specimens as a safeguard against fraud. Its raison d'être in this catalogue is the fact that it contains a long account of the savages who were brought to Rouen (from Newfoundland) in 1507. It is therefore probably the first book in the French language which treats upon the New World.
