And Saul eyed David from that and forward.

26 And when his fervants told David thefe words, it pleafed David well to be the kings fon in law: and the days were not expired.

27 Wherefore David arofe and went, he and his men, and flew of the Phili ftines, two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the kings fon in law: and Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.

28 And Saul faw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Sauls daughter loved him.

29 And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became Davids c nemy continually.

18 So David fled and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him : and he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.

19 And it was told Saul, faying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.

20 And Saul fent meffengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophefying, and Samuel ftanding as appointed over them, the fpirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they alfo prophefied.

21 And when it was told Saul, he fent other meffengers, and they prophefied likewife: and Saul fent meffengers again the third time, and they prophefied alfo.

22 Then went he alfo to Ramah, and came to a great well that is in Sechua and he asked and faid, Where are Samuel and David ? And one said, Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah.

23 And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the spirit of God was upon himalfo, and he went on and prophefied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah

24 And he ftript off his clothes alfo and prophefied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day, and all that night. Wherefore they fay, Is Saul alfo among the prophets? CHAP. XX.

Saul fought to fmite David ewall with the javelin; but he -out of Sauls prefence, and he javelin into the wall: and Da-1 and efcaped that night.

18 Then Jonathan faid to David, To morrow is the new-moon: and thou fhalt bemiffed, because thy feat will be empty.

5 And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, tomorrow is the new-moon, and I should not fail to fit with the king at mears but let me go, that I may hide my felf in the field unto the third day 19 And when thou haft ftayed three adays, then thou fhalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didft hide thy felf, when the bufinefs was in hand, and fhale remain by the stone Ezel.

30 Then Sauls anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he faid unto him, Thou fen of the perverfe rebellious wo-Self mad. man, do not I know that thou haft chofen thee fon of Jeffe to thine own confufion, and unto the confufion of thy mothers nakedness?

31 For as long as the fon of Jeffe livech upon the ground, thou shalt not be eftablished, nor thy kingdom: wherefore now fend and fetch him unto me, for he fhall furely die.

32 And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and faid unto him, Wherefore fhall he be flain? what hath he done?

33 And Saul caft a javelin at him to fmite him whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to Пlay David.

34 So Jonathan arofe from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the fecond day of the month: for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him fhame.

Hen came David to Nob, to Ahi❤ melech the prieft: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and faid unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

2 And David faid unto Abimelech the prieft, The king hach commanded me a bufinefs, and hath faid unto me, Letno man know any thing of the bufinefs whereabout I fend thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my fervants to fuch and fuch a place

3 Now therefore what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what there is prefent.

4 And the priest answered David, and faid, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at leaft from women.dandw

5 And David aufwered the prieff, and faid unto him, Of a truth,women have been kept from us about thefe three days, fince I came out, and the veffels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were fanctified this day in the veffel

6 So the priest gave him hallowed breads for there was no bread there, but the fhew-bread that was taken from ber fore the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

7 Now a certain man of the fervants of Saul, was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was Doeg an Edomire, the chiefeft of the herd men that belonged to Saul.

8 And David faid unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thine hand fpear or fword? for I have neither brought my fword, nor my weapons with me, because the kings bufinces rer Aquired hafte...

40 And Jonathan gave his artillery unto his lad, and faid unto him, Go, carry them to the city.

9 And the priest faid, The fword of Goliath the Philiftine, whom thou flew eft in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapt in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it for there is no other fave that here. And David faid There is none like that, give it me.

David feigneth himself mad.

I. Samuel. Saul defroyeth the priests. Benjamites, Will the fon of Jeffe give every one of you fields, and vineyards, and make you all captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds :

10 And David arofe, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achifh the king of Gath.

11 And the fervants of Achifh faid unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not fing one to another of him in dances, faying, Saul hath Bain his thoufands, and David his ten thousands?

12 And David laid up thefe words in his heart, and was fore afraid of Achifh the king of Gath.

13 And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and fcrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his fpittle fall down upon his beard.

14 Then faid Achifh unto his fervants, Lo, you fee the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?

15 Have I need of mad-men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the madman in my prefence? fhall this fellow come into my house?

CHA P. XXII. – 1 Companies refort to David at Adullam. 9 Doeg accufeth Ahimelech. 11 Saul commandeth to kill the priests.

Avid therefore departed thence,

and when his brethren and all his fathers houfe heard it, they went down thither to him.

2 And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was difcontented, gathered themfelves unto him, and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men. 1:34 And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he faid unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.

4 And he brought them before the king of Moab and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold.

5. And the prophet Gad faid unto David, Abide not in the hold, depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the foreft of Hareth.

6 When Saul heard that David was difcovered, and the men that were with him, (now Saul abode in Gibeah, under a tree in Ramah, having his fpear in his band, and all his fervants were ftanding about him)

Then Saul faid unto his fervants at food about him, Hear now, ye

8 That all of you have confpired againft me, and there is none that thewedh me that my fon hath made a league with the fon of Jeffe, and there is none of you that is forry for me, or fheweth unto me that my fon hath ftirred up my fervant againft me to lie in wait, as at this day?

9 Then anfwered Doeg the Edomite, (which was fet over the fervants of Saul) and faid, I faw the son of Jeffe coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the fon of Ahitub.

ro And he enquired of the LORD for him: and gave him victuals, and gave him the fword of Goliath the Philiftine.

11 Then the king fent to call Ahimelech the prieft the fon of Ahitub, and all his fathers houfe, the priests that were in Nob: and they came all of them to the king.

12 And Saul faid, Hear now, thou fon of Ahitub: And he answered, Here I am, my lord.

13 And Saul faid unto him, Why have ye confpired against me, thou and the

bread, and a fword, and haft enquired of God for him, that he fhould rife a gainft me, to lie in wait, as at this day?.

14 Then Ahimelech anfwered the king, and faid, And who is fo faithful among all thy fervants, as David, which is the kings fon in law, and goeth at thy bidding, and is honourable in thine houfe?

15 Did I then begin to enquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute any thing unto his fervant, nor to all the houfe of my father: for thy fervant knew nothing of all this, less

or more.

16 And the king faid, Thou shalt fure ly die, Ahimelech, thou and all thy fa thers house.

17 And the king said unto the foot men that ftood about him, Turn and flay the priefts of the LORD; because their hand alfo is with David, and becaufe they knew when he fled, and did not fhew it to me. But the fervants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the pricfts of the LORD.

18 And the king faid to Doeg, Turn thou and fall upon the pricfts. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and flew on that day fourfcore and five perfons, that did wear a linen ephod.
