Wants. That All-fulness that is in Jefus Chrift the Mediator, is from the good Pleafure of the Father. Col. i. 19. It pleased the Father that in him fhould all Ful nefs dwell. God the Father appointed his Son Jefus Chrift to be the Saviour of Sinners, and communicated an inconceivable Fulness of Gifts and Graces to his hu man Nature, whereby he was fitted to be a Saviour to the uttermoft. So that that Fulnefs of created Ability which is in Chrift to fave, is from God the Father. He has anointed him with the Oil of Gladness, above his Fellows, Heb. i. 9. Seeing then that Jefus Chrift by the Appointment and Furniture of the Father, is an All-foficient Saviour, it cannot but be very pleafing to God to fee us repair to Jefus Chrift for all faving Bleffings ? In thus doing, we do fet our Seal of Approbation to that Way which God has contrived for faving Sinners. We acquiefce in his Wildom, as that which has found out à fuitable and All-fufficient Saviour for us. We clofe in with his Will, in feeking Salvation in that Way in which 'tis his Will to fave us. There is nothing then that can be more well-pleafing to God, than a Recourfe to this All-full Redeemer, whom he has fet up. God is well-pleafed in Chrift, and will be well-pleafed in us, if we are alfo well-pleafed in Chrift, fo as to feek all our Satisfaction in him.

USE 5. Let us admire and adore Jefus Chrift on the Account of that Fulnefs which is in him. On this Account, he is an Object moft worthy of our Admiration. and Adoration. To this End, let us confider what fort of Fulness it is, that is in him.

1. It is an infinite Fulnefs. As he is God, fo his Fulnefs is abfolutely Infinite. Our Saviour is a divine Perfon. He is the great God, Tit. ii. 13. And hence the infinite Fulness of the God-head belongs to him. The divine All-fufficiency is his.---- Again, as he is Man, there is a boundless Fulnefs in him. Though it be not abfolutely infinite, yet it is Incomprehenfible by Men or Angels. That Man has received the Spirit, not by Measure, Fah. iii. 34. There is an unmeafurable Ful

nefs of Gifts and Graces in his human Nature. There are in him unfearchable Riches, of Wisdom, Grace and Glory. Eph. iii. 8. The human Nature being united to the divine Nature in the Perfon of God the Son, hence it has all Fulnefs communicated to it, in an im mediate and direct Way, from the glorious Godhead. No other created Being is under fuch a Way of Communication from the Godhead, as that Man is. That Fulness therefore which dwells in his Humanity, is beyond our Expreffion or Conception. How admirable and adorable then is Jefus Chrift, who has the infinite, increated Fulness of the Godhead, dwelling in his Perfon; and an inconceivable created Fulnefs, dwelling in his human Nature!

2. It is an inexhaustible Fulnefs. This follows upon the former Head. If the Fulness of Chrift be divine and infinite, it is then inexhauftible. It is fuch a Fountain as cannot be drawn away, or drawn dry; yea, fuch a Fountain as cannot be diminished, by the Communications of itfelf to the Creature. Jefus Chrift gives Being and Bleffedness to all Saints and Angels, without the leaft Diminution of Bleffednefs in himself. They all live upon his Goodness: and yet he is nothing the lefs Good, or full of Goodness in himself. The eternal Communications of his Goodnefs to them, da not at all exhauft or diminish his Goodness. Though to all Eternity they are continually drawing, deriving, and receiving from his Fulnefs, yet he abides for ever as full as he was. The Reafon is, because they are finite, but Chrift's Fulnefs is infinite, and therefore can fuffer no Diminution by what they receive from it. How wonderful and adorable then is that Fulness which is in Jefus Chrift! All the Saints and Angels do adore him upon this Account.

USE 6. Let all that defire fpiritual and faving Blef-. fings, live on this Fulness of Jefus Chrift. Let the Life that you now live, be a Life of Faith in the Son of God, depending upon him for all thofe Supplies of Grace and Good that you ftand in need of. And here

I. Live

1. Live on his Fulnefs only. Make him the alons object of your Trust for all Life and Happinefs. There is no need of going any where elfe for Supplies: for in him 'there is enough, and more than enough, to fupply all your Neceffities. There is All-fufficiency and infinite Fulness in him. He is able to fave to the uttermoft, fully and eternally, Heb. vii. 25. So that it is altogether needlefs to go any where else. And in Truth there is Salvation in none other. For there is no other Name under Heaven given among Mer, whereby we must be faved. A&. iv. 12. Besides, we must live upon Chrift for all, or else we shall receive nothing at all from him. In the Matter of our Salvation, he will admit of no Co-partner. He will have none to be joined with him, as an object of our Truft for any faving Mercy or Grace. He must be all in all to us, or he will be no Saviour at all to us. If we come to him for fome good Things, and go elsewhere for other good Things, he will fend us

empty away.

Yet further, to look to any befides Chrift for a Supply of our fpiritual Wants in any degree, is a difhonourable Reflection upon Jefus Chrift. It is a fecret reproaching of him, as if there were fome Defect in him, either as to Power or Good-will. It is a practical charging him with Infufficiency, or Difinclination, as if he were not able or willing to do all that for us which we need. Q then let us live wholly upon Chrift, feeking to him for Wisdom, Righteoufnefs, Sanctification, and Redemption. When many of Chrift's Difciples forfook him, he faid to the twelve, Will ye alfo go away? to which Peter replies in the Name of the reft, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou haft the Words of eternal Life. Joh. vi. 68. He was refolved to adhere to Chrift, and go to no other. Let this be our Refolution and Practice alfo.

2. Live on Chrift's Fulness continually. Day by Day let us repair to Christ for all that we need. We fin daily, and therefore need daily Pardon. And therefore we should make our daily Applications to Jefus Christ,

to

to wash us from our Sins in his most precious Blood, We need daily Supplies of Grace and Strength, and therefore should daily look to Chrift for further Meafures of fanctifying and affifting Grace. We muft not trust to Grace already received, as if it were fufficient to answer all our Ends. We must not imagine that we have Grace enough to perform all Duties, and Strength enough to refift all Temptations; and fo neglect to reft on Chrift continually. We must not go forth to any Duty, or fet ourselves against any Temptation, in our own Strength; but our Eye must be to Chrift, to enable and strengthen us. Our whole Life must be a Life of dependance on Jefus Chrift. In him we must trust at all times, that he would ftand by us and ftrengthen us, and deliver us from every evil Work, and preferve us to his heavenly Kingdom. Thus let us live upon Chrift all the Days of our Lives, expecting from him alone all Grace in this World, and eternal Glory in the World to come.---Now, in order to this, attend thefe Directions, which will fhew us the right Way of fo living upon Chrift, as to fetch all Supplies from him.

Direct. 1. Maintain a Life of Communion with Chrift in all his holy Ordinances. The Ordinances of Chrift, are the Means and Helps, which he has appointed, for the Communication of his Fulnefs to our Souls. In the Ufe of them we are edified in Grace and Holiness, from the Fulnefs of Jefus Chrift. Eph. iv. 11, 12, 13. We must therefore draw near to Chrift in his Ordinances, depending upon him therein, for the Communication of all Grace to us.---Q then keep up a daily Course of Communion with Chrift in the Way of Prayer. Go to the Throne of Grace, for all that Mercy and Grace that you ftand in need of. Heb iv. 16. Wait alfo on Christ in the Miniftry of his Word, looking to him that it may be accompanied with his Bleffing, fo as that you may be made to grow thereby. 1 Pet. ii. 2.---Wait alfo on Chrift at his holy Table. Come to that Ordinance as the higheft Means appointed for the Communication of Chrift's Fulness to you. Chrift is there fet before US

us in all his Fulnefs, and calls on us to receive of his Fulness. O then let us come (as we are invited to do on the next Lord's-Day) to that well-furnished Table, and bring with us opened Hearts, to take in Abundance of Grace from the Fulnefs of Chrift, Come thither, as to a Feaft of fat Things, a Feaft of Wines on the Lees, of fat Things full of Marrow, of Wines on the Lees well refined. Come thither, depending on Chrift for the Manifeftation and letting out of himself to you in all his Fulness. Thus repair to Chrift in all the Ways of his Inftitution, and fo may you fafely truft in him for the imparting all fpiritual Bleffings. But if you live in the neglect of thefe Ordinances, your pretended de pendance upon him for Mercy, Grace and Salvation, is nothing but groundless Prefumption, and will be of no Benefit to you. If we neglect Communion with Chrift in his Ordinances, we negle&t Him, and may juft, ly expect that we fhall alfo be neglected by him. They that draw near to him, fhall find it good for them; but they that keep afar off, fhall perish.

Direct. 2. Live in Obedience to all the Commandments of Chrift. We must ferve Chrift and do his Will in all Things, if we would receive Supplies from his Fulnefs. In this Way of dutiful Subjection to him, we fhall never be left deftitute of Communications of Grace from him. If we live and labour for him, doing that Work which he fets us about, we may be affured that he will abundantly fupply us with Grace and Strength. If we improve that Grace that he has given us, in his Service, he will undoubtedly give us more. Matth. xiii. 12. Whofoever bath, to him shall be given, and he fhall have more Abundance. He that employs his Gifts and Graces for Chrift, to him will Chrift grant greater Meafures of Gifts and Graces. The dutiful, laborious Servant fhall be a well-fupplied Servant. There is no more effectual Way to fetch in a Fulnefs from Christ, than by labouring much for Chrift. The Fulness of Chrift the Head, flows forth to all his Members, according to their Activity for him. The moft active in
