DUKE STREET. L.M.

WORSHIP

J. HATTON.

11

Morning hymn.

1 AWAKE, my soul, and with the sun
Thy daily stage of duty run;
Shake off dull sloth, and joyful rise
To pay thy morning sacrifice.

2 Wake, and lift up thyself, my heart,
And with the angels bear thy part,
Who all night long unwearied sing
High praises to the eternal King.

3 All praise to thee, who safe hast kept,

And hast refreshed me while I slept : Grant, Lord, when I from death shall wake,

I may of endless life partake.

4 Direct, control, suggest this day, All I design, or do, or say; That all my powers, with all their might,

In thy sole glory may unite.

Thomas Ken.

12 Morning prayer. 1 Now doth the sun ascend the sky, And wake creation with its ray; Keep us from sin, O Lord most high, Through all the actions of the day. 2 Curb thou for us the unruly tongue; Teach us the way of peace to prize; And close our eyes against the throng Of earth's absorbing vanities.

Our praise to thy pure glory sing.

Ambrose of Milan. Tr. by E. Caswall.

Light for those who sit in darkness.

1 THOUGH now the nations sit beneath The darkness of o'erspreading death, God will arise with light divine, On Zion's holy towers to shine.

2 That light shall shine on distant lands,

and wandering tribes, in joyful bands,

Shall come, thy glory, Lord, to see,
And in thy courts to worship thee.
3 O light of Zion, now arise!
Let the glad morning bless our eyes;
Ye nations, catch the kindling ray,
And hail the splendors of the day.

Leonard Bacon.
