The following just character of the Author of these Sermons is given in the Post-Boy, N°2925, From Thursday Feb. 4, to Saturday Feb. 6.1713-14.

"On Tuesday last I Feb.2.] died at the Bath, his Grace Dr John Sharp, I Archbishop of York; a Prelate, coho through the whole course of his Life, has always practiced that Integrity & Refolution, he at first set out with: nor was influenced by the changes revolutions of the Age he lived in, to swerve from the Doctrine and Difcipline of the Church of England, or the Dignity of his Office. He was one of the first who, among the numerous Body of the Clergy, tood in the Gap against the encroachments of Popery & arbitrary Power, in a late Reign; and has in these his latter days, had the fame Call to oppofe the Perfecutions raised by another fort of men, whofe Principles are destructive to the very Being of the Church, and leveld at the Foundation of all Gro

-vernments. As he was an exact Pattern of that exemplary Piety, Charity, Steadi •neß, and good Conduct, requifite in a Governor of the Church; so perhaps, since the Primitive age of Christianity, and the time of the Apostles, whose Succeßor he was, there has been no Man, whose Learning & Abilities have better qualified him to de fend a Trust of that importance.
