GOD

God is love.-1 JOHN iv. 8.
s 1 LOD is love: His mercy brightens

All the path in which we rove;
Bliss He wakes, and woe He lightens :

God is wisdom, God is love.
p 2 Death and change are busy ever,

Man decays and ages move;
f But His mercy waneth never :

God is wisdom, God is love.
p 3 E'en the hour that darkest seemeth

Will His changeless goodness prove ;

From the gloom His brightness streameth:

4 He with earthly cares entwineth

Hope and comfort from above :
Everywhere His glory shineth :

BLESS the Lord, my soul ; fi soul, repeat His

Let all within me join,
And aid my tongue to bless His name

Whose anger is so slow to rise,
Whose favours are divine.

So ready to abate.

God will not always chide ; 2 O bless the Lord, my soul ;

And, when His strokes are felt, Nor let His mercies lie

His strokes are fewer than our crimes,
Forgotten in unthankfulness,

And lighter than our guilt.
And without praises die.

3 High as the heavens are raised

Above the ground we tread, 3 'Tis He forgives thy sins ;

So far the riches of His grace 'Tis He relieves thy pain ;

Our highest thoughts exceed. 'Tis He that heals thy sicknesses,

4 And makes thee young again.

His power subdues our sins;

And His forgiving love,

Far as the east is from the west
4 He crowns thy life with love,
When ransomed from the grave:

Doth all our guilt remove.
He that redeemed my soul from hell

The pity of the Lord
Hath sovereign power to save.

To those that fear His name,

Is such as tender parents feel :
5 He fills the poor with good ;

He knows our feeble frame.
He gives the sufferers rest;

6 Our days are as the grass,
The Lord bath judgments for the proud,

Or like the morning flower ;
And justice for the oppressed.

If one sharp blast sweep o'er the field,

dim It withers in an hour. 6 His wondrous works and ways

But thy compassions, Lord,
He made by Moses known;

To endless years endure ;
But sent the world His truth and grace And children's children ever find
By His beloved Son,
