of this world: now fhall the PRINCE of this world be caft out.. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

I Cor. xv. 22, 23. As in ADAM all die, even fo in CHRIST, fhall all be made alive; but every man in his own order: CHRIST the FIRST FRUITS; afterward they that are CHRIST's at HIS COMING.

1 Tim, iv. 3, 10. This is a faithful word, and worthy of all acceptation. For on this account we labour and are reproached, because we hope in the LIVING GOD, who is the SAVIOUR of all men, SPECIALLY of the faithful.

Rev. xiy. 6, 7. I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlafting gospel, to preach good tidings to all the inhabitants of the earth, and to every nation, and tribe, and tongue, and people, saying with a loud voice, fear GOD and give glory unto him, for the HOUR of HIS JUDGMENT is come.

Pfalm 68. explained in conformity to the great Antitypes fulfilled in Jefus Chrift, from the commencement of his Mediatorial Character, to the end of it, in the abolition of all enemies, Flesh, Sin, Death, and Hell.

The conducting of the ark of the covenant into the city of David from Kirjath Jearim, to Jerufalem, or the house of Obed-Edom, in the tabernacle prepared for its reception in Sion, is supposed to have furnished the subject of this fublime compofition. It evidently contains three branches, of fupplication, praife and prophecy, fcattered through it after the manner of all the prophetical writings. The illuftration. of the mystical fense (which is the one true and elevated import of the holy scriptures,) will bring to light the exceeding riches of the grace of God in the great Saviour, and propitiation for the

fins of the whole world. -The moft literal tranflation will be used, as the foundation of the deep and transcendent meaning which this glorious fong prefigures in the election, name, and victories of this typical king of Ifrael. The ftudied and elaborate affectation of elegant diction tends only to deprefs and enervate the spirit and energy of the facred volumes: which bear a style, not borrowed from the east or weft, but original from the Holy Spirit, who, knowing the deep things of God, can reveal them in expreffions, fimple yet fublime, and adapted to the magnificence of the fubjects prefented to the underftanding and notice of mankind.

VERSE I.
