I give myself unto prayer.-Ps. cix. 4.

"What is prayer? To connect every thought with the thought of God; to look on every thing as His work and appointment; to submit every thought, wish, and resolve to Him; to feel His presence so that it shall restrain us even in our wildest joy,—that is prayer."

To Him who unceasing love displays,

Whom the powers of Nature unceasingly praise, To Him thy heart and thy hours be given;

For a life of prayer is the life of heaven.

H. WARE, Jr.

While this habit of intercourse with God is maintained, while we thus bring all parts of our life before Him in thankfulness, penitence, or supplication, we fulfil the command to pray without ceasing. . . . To pray without ceasing is to work for man in constant reliance on God; to work for Christ, and in every moment of need to look to God for strength wherewith to work.-J. F. CLARKE.

Pray without ceasing. — 1 THESS. v. 17.

Let thy heart keep my commandments: for length of days, and long life, and peace shall they add to thee.PROV. iii. 1, 2.

We live in deeds, not years.

"He liveth long who liveth well;
All else is life but flung away;
He liveth longest who can tell

P. J. BAILEY.

Of true work truly done each day.

Then fill each hour with what will last;
Buy up the moments as they go;
The life above, when this is past,

Is the ripe fruit of life below."

Whatever one day is permitted to do with a man will probably continue to be done: if for good, going up to better; if for bad, going down to worse. What it is sowing shall be reaped, whether for a divine harvest-home or for the hurricane. - N. L. FROTHING

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. - Ps. xc. 12.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. - HEB. xi. 6.

Give me to see Thee, and to feel
The mental vision clear;

The things unseen reveal, reveal!
And let me know them near.

Impart the faith that soars on high,

Beyond this earthly strife,

That holds sweet converse with the sky,

"Faith is a mother virtue from which all others spring."

Faith is the foundation and root of all graces: it is the life of them all. -T. ADAMS.

Lord, increase our faith. — LUKE XVii. 5.

And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. JOHN v. 40.

"Beloved Master, may we ever listen to thy voice when it calls us! and may we ever hear it calling us, with thy accents of encouragement to the penitent, of sympathy and comfort to the mourner, and of blessed promise to thy faithful followers."

If I ask him to receive me,
Will he say me Nay?

Not till earth and not till heaven

Pass away!

Tending, following, keeping, struggling,

Is he sure to bless?

Angels, martyrs, prophets, pilgrims,

Answer Yes!

STEPHEN OF ST. SABBAS.

Him that cometh to me, I wil! in no wise cast out.

JOHN vi. 37.

Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall build the temple of the Lord. —ZECH. vi. 12.

Christ, the Branch, forms the inward temple in our hearts. He lays its foundations, and builds its walls strong in righteousness. He brings in the ornaments of every lovely grace and harmonizing affection, and kindles upon its altar the everlasting fire.-R. WAT

BON.

Fling wide the portals of your heart,
Make it a temple set apart

From earthly use for Heaven's employ,
Adorned with prayer and love and joy;
So shall your Sovereign enter in,

And new and nobler life begin.

Praise, O my God! be Thine.

WEISZEL.

God that made the world, and all things therein, seeing that He is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands. - ACTS xvii. 24.
