Will and must become usurpers,
If thyself be not within:
Come, LORD JESUS,

Let thy glorious train be seen.

dear

To hear the dire decree, and feel
The vengeance of the mighty God.

III.

Not with the sword that warriors wear,
But with a sceptre dipt in blood,
He bends the nations to obey,

And rules them by the love of God.

IV.

Ride on and prosper, KING of kings,
Till all the powers of hell resign
Their dreadful trophies at thy feet,
And endless glory shall be thine.

V.

Go with thy servants, gracious LORD, And bid them tread the tempter down; Be more than conqu'ror by thy word, And wear the Universal Crown.

VI.

Soon shall the monster Sin, submit
His hateful sceptre to thy call;
Death and death's author soon shall die,
And JESUS CHRIST be All in All.

HYMN CCXXIII. L. M. The first Sabbath of the New Year.

1.

NOTHER sabbath calls our feet
To worship at the mercy seat;
And in thy temple, LORD, appear,
To bless thee for a new-born year.

II.

When the expired year we view,
And recollect thy goodness through,
We feel constrain'd with one accord,
With all our powers to praise the LORD.

[ocr errors]

O gracious GOD, still condescend
To be our helper and our friend:
At our right hand be ever near,
To guide us thro' the present year.

IV.

And if this year should be our last, ·
If that decree, great GOD, be past,
May Death safe land us on that shore,
Where Time and Death are known no more.'

HYMN CCXXIV. C. M.

Praise to divine Grace.

1.

RISE my soul, adore the grace,

AR Which rais'd thee from despair;

Taught thee to seek Jehovah's face,
And all his works declare.

11.

Had not his pow'r my heart renew'd,
I should have wander'd on

In sin's perverse and dangerous road,
Till time and life were gone:

III.

Have rush'd to all the awful scenes
Of hell and black despair!

To hear the dire decree, and feel
The vengeance of the mighty God.
