PREFACE. THERE are books with Scripture texts for daily use throughout the year, but, as the Words spoken by our Lord Jesus Christ do not appear to have been specially set apart for this purpose, my object has been so to arrange them that readers may be able to meditate day by day on a few of them, and on the great lessons they teach. The Words of Jesus as recorded in the Four Gospels, are apportioned to the four quarters of the year. The notes taken from Canon Walsham How's Commentary on "The Four Gospels," published by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, and those from other Authors, often necessarily abbreviated, have been selected in the hope of aiding the reader's meditations.
