RULES AND REGULATIONS.

LIBRARY.

ARTICLE 1. The Library shall be open every secular day throughout the year, excepting legal holidays and such other days as the Trustees may direct, from nine to ten o'clock, A.M., and from half-past three to half-past nine o'clock, P.M.

ARTICLE 2. All inhabitants of Holbrook above the age of ten years, known to the officers of the Library as proper persons to enjoy its privileges, shall be entitled to borrow books from the Library for home use.

ARTICLE 3. Every person entitled to borrow books from the Library, shall receive from the Librarian a printed card, having on one side the borrower's name, and on the reverse, spaces for the entry of books borrowed; and this card must always be presented when making application for or returning any book.

ARTICLE 4. No person shall be allowed more than one book, (unless the work be in more than one volume, in which case two may be taken,) and no family more than four books, at one time; and no book shall be changed the same day on which it is loaned

Books may be kept out fourteen days (unless a shorter time is specified on the cover), but may be renewed within that time by presenting a new application with the borrower's card.

Any person retaining a book beyond the specified time, shall incur a fine of two cents a day until it is returned to the Library.

ARTICLE 5. No book shall be kept in one household beyond the period of one month; at the end of the month the book must remain in the Library one week before it can be drawn again by any member of the same household.

No book shall be reserved, and no Seven Day book shall be renewed.

ARTICLE 6. Any book retained two weeks beyond the time prescribed, shall be sent for by the Librarian, and the expense of obtaining it shall be paid by the person who has so retained it.

ARTICLE 7. Injuries to books beyond reasonable wear, and all lost books, shall be made good to the satisfaction of the Trustees.

ARTICLE 8. Persons obtaining books from the Library are not permitted to loan them to any one not a member of the same household.

ARTICLE 9. No person shall enjoy the privileges of the Library who is in arrears for fines or forfeitures, until all such charges are paid.

ARTICLE 10. Any one abusing the privileges of the Library by improper or offensive conduct, shall be denied admission to the rooms.

ARTICLE 11. Books of Reference, and those deemed unsuitable for general circulation, shall not be loaned out of the Building, except upon an order signed by at least two of the Trustees.

ARTICLE 12. Persons may receive books for consultation in the Reading Room, during library hours, upon making written application on the "Reading Room slips, which will be furnished at the desk. Any person neglecting to return such books, shall forfeit the above privilege.

READING ROOM.

ARTICLE 1. The Reading Room shall be open every secular day of the year, excepting legal holidays and such other days as the Trustees may direct, from nine to ten o'clock, A.M., and from half-past three to half-past nine o'clock, P.M.

ARTICLE 2. All conversation and conduct inconsistent with the orderly use of the Room, by persons resorting to it, are strictly prohibited.

ARTICLE 3. Any person violating the rules of the Room, shall be excluded from its privileges, either temporarily or permanently, according to the nature of the

offence.

NOTE.

The abbreviation "(Ref.)" in the Catalogue, signifies that the book so marked is for reference only, and cannot be taken from the Library, without special permission.

The Books have been catalogued by their titles, and also under the name of their author, when known.
