PREFACE.

HIS little volume is offered to the Christian

THIS

public in the earnest hope that it may be the means of throwing some fresh light on a somewhat obscure portion of Scripture; and also that it may afford a clue to guide the Bible student through other sections of Old Testament history and biography.

In many of these the writer feels assured that much valuable and profitable teaching would be discovered underlying the merely historical facts related, were due attention paid to the meaning of the proper Hebrew names of persons and places introduced into the sacred narratives.
