Search the Scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are they which testify of Me.—ST. JOHN V. 39. Whatsoever things were written aforetime, were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.-ROMANS XV. 4. Α SERIES OF TEXTS: ARRANGED FOR THE USE OF CHRISTIANS IN THE WAY OF PRAYER AND PROMISE IN THE HOPE OF AFFORDING GUIDANCE AND CONSOLATION IN SEASONS OF DIFFICULTY, TRIAL, AND AFFLICTION. By A Lady. EDITED BY THE REV. WILLIAM SINCLAIR, LONDON: THOMAS HATCHARD, 187, PICCADILLY. 1850. ERRATUM. Pages 12 and 13.-The last three lines of page 12, 66 Except," &c., should be placed in page 13, before "God hath chosen," &c. LONDON: J. PALMER, PRINTER, SAVOY-STREET, STRAND. PREFACE. THE following little work was compiled by the authoress for her own edification and instruction; but, on showing it to several of her friends, they solicited her to commit it to the press. In that request I concurred, thinking that the arrangement of texts in the way of Prayers or Precepts, expressive of the wants and wishes of the believer's heart, throughout the varied phases of the christian life, with corresponding answers on the opposite page from the rich treasure of the Gospel promises, would be edifying and full of comfort to the sick, the ignorant, and, indeed, the religious community under its widest designation. |
