(I Kings 7 :) 38. And he made ten lavers of brass:

one laver contained forty baths; and every laver was four cubits and upon every one of the ten bases one laver. 39. And he set the bases, five on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house :

and he set the sea on the right side of the house eastward, toward the south.

40. And Hiram made the lavers, and the shovels, and the basons. So Hiram made an end of doing all the work that he wrought for king Solomon in the house of the Lord: 41. the two pillars, and the two bowls of the chapiters that were on the top of the pillars; and the two network to cover the two bowls of the chapiters that were on the top of the pillars: 42. and the four hundred pomegranates for the two networks; two rows of pomegranates for each network, to cover the two bowls of the chapiters that were upon the pillars: 43. and the ten bases, and the ten lavers on the bases; 44. and the one sea, and the twelve oxen under the sea, 45. and the pots, and the shovels, and the basons: even all these vessels, which Hiram made for king Solomon, in the house of the Lord, were of burnished brass.

46. In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zarethan.

47. And Solomon left all the vessels unweighed, because they were exceeding many: the weight of the brass could not be found out. 48. And Solomon made all the vessels that were in the house of the Lord: the golden altar, and the table whereupon the shewbread was, of gold; 49. and the candlesticks, five on the right side, and five on the left, before the oracle, of pure gold; and the flowers, and 50. and the cups, and the snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the firepans, of pure gold; and the hinges both for the doors of the inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the house, to wit, of the temple, of gold. 51. Thus all the work that king Solomon wrought in the house of the Lord was finished. And Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated, even the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, and put them in the treasuries of the house of the Lord.

the lamps, and the tongs of gold;

(II Chron. 4 :) 6. He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them; such things as belonged to the burnt offering they washed in them:

but the sea was for the

priests to wash in. 10. And he set the sea on the right side of the house eastward, toward the south. 7. And he made the ten candlesticks of gold according to the ordinance concerning them; and he set them in the temple, five on the right hand and five on the left. 8. He made also ten tables, and placed them in the temple, five on the right side, and five on the left. And he made an hundred basons of gold. 9. Furthermore he made the court of the priests, and the great court, and doors for the court, and overlaid the doors of them with brass. 11. And Huram made the pots, and the shovels, and the basons. So Huram made an end of doing the work that he wrought for king Solomon in the house of God: 12. the two pillars and the bowls, and the two chapiters which were on the top of the pillars; and the two networks to cover the two bowls of the chapiters that were on the top of the pillars; 13. and the four hundred pomegranates for the two networks; two rows of pomegranates for each network, to cover the two bowls of the chapiters that were upon the pillars. 14. He made also the bases, and the lavers made he upon the bases; 15. one sea, and the twelve oxen under it. 16. The pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all the vessels thereof, did Huram his father make for king Solomon for the house of the Lord of bright brass.

17. In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zaredah.

18. Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance: for the weight of the brass could not be found out. 19. And Solomon made all the vessels that were in the house of God, the golden altar also, and the tables whereon was the shewbread; 20. and the candlesticks

with their lamps, that they should burn according to the ordinance before the oracle, of pure gold; 21. and the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs, of gold, and that perfect gold; 22. and the snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the firepans, of pure gold: and as for the entry of the house, the inner doors thereof for the most holy place, and the doors of the house, to wit, of the temple were of gold. 5:1. Thus all the work that Solomon wrought for the house of the Lord was finished. And Solomon brought in the things that David his father had dedicated; even the silver, and the gold, and all the vessels, and put them in the treasuries of the house of God.

Ark Brought
Out of Zion

SECTION XIX

Dedication of the Temple

Then Solomon assembled all the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers' houses of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Zion. And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast, in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month. And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark. And they brought up the ark of the Lord, and the Tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent; even these did the priests and the Levites bring up. And king Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be told nor numbered for multitude. And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the Lord unto its place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubim. For the cherubim spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and the staves thereof above. And the staves were so long that the ends of the staves were seen from the holy place before the oracle; but they were not seen without; and there they are, unto this day. There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, when the Lord And made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. it came to pass when the priests were come out of the holy place,* (for all the priests that were present had sanctified themselves, and did not keep their courses; also the Levites which were the singers, all of them, even Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and their sons and their brethren, arrayed in fine linen, with cymbals, and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:) it came to pass when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying, ** For he is good; for his mercy, endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord, so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.

Solomon's Address

Then spake Solomon, The Lord hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness. I have surely built thee an house of habitation, and a place for thee to dwell in for ever. And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood. And he said, Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying, Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be prince over my people Israel; but I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there, and have chosen David to be over my people Israel. Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. But the Lord said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart; nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name. And the Lord hath established his word that he spake; for

I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. And there have I set a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the Lord, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

Prayer for David's House

And Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven: (for Solomon had made a brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high and had set it in the midst of the court; and upon it he stood, and kneeled down on his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven:) and he said, O Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath; who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants, that walk before thee with all their heart; who hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou didst promise him: yea, thou spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day. Now therefore, O Lord, the God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; if only thy children take heed to their way to walk before me as thou hast walked before me. Now therefore O Lord, the God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father. But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven, and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded! Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee this day: that thine eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place whereof thou hast said, My name shall be there: to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall pray toward this place.

Prayer for Israel

And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: yea, hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place; and when thou hearest forgive. If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him and he come and swear before thine altar in this house: then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, requiting the wicked, to bring his way upon

to cause him to swear,
