Psalms of David after God had revealed to him that Mount Zion was the place he had chosen for his sanctuary; after the ark had remained three hundred and twenty-eight years at Shiloh; six months with the Philistines; and seventy years at Kirjath Jearim, a city of the tribe of Judah, in the house of a levite called Abinadab.

SECTION I.

Anthem composed by David, to be sung previously to the removal of the ark.

Psalm 65. XCV. Invitation to all Israel to

assist at the ceremony of the removal of the ark from Kirjath Jearim to the tabernacle David had erected to receive it at Mount Zion. 1 Chron. xiii. 1-6.

Psalm 66. CXXII. Anthem of thanksgiving, for the use of the Israelites who went up to Jerusalem, to witness the ceremony of installing the ark in the tabernacle erected for its reception at Mount Zion. 1 Chron. xiii. 1-6.

SECTION II.

Psalms composed by David to be sung during the march of the sacerdotal procession, bearing the ark from Kirjath Jearim to Jerusalem.

Psalm 67. LXVIII. Noble anthem of praise, in three parts, sung at the taking up of

the ark from its resting place in Kirjath Jearim, and beginning its procession. Psalm 68. CV. Anthem sung, during the transportation of the ark from Kirjath Jearim to Jerusalem, by Asaph and his brethren. 1 Chron. xvi. 7-36.

Psalm 71. CXIV. and CXV. Psalm and anthem of praise, on the procession of the ark; to be sung on its bearers first setting foot on the territory of the tribe of Judah, and meeting the multitudes from Jerusalem. Those accompanying the ark singing CXIV.; those meeting it replying by CXV.

SECTION III.

Psalms composed by David to be sung when the ark entered Jerusalem, and being carried up Mount Zion, entered the tabernacle; and was at last deposited in the sanctuary.

Psalm 72. XXIV. Anthem performed when the heads of the gates of the city of Jerusalem were lifted up to receive the ark; when the multitude, accompanied by the priests, levites bearing it, and those who were ceremonially clean, and the hosts of Israel, it began to ascend the holy hill of Mount Zion. Psalm 73. CXI. Anthem of praise, composed and sung by David himself, as king of Israel, when the ark arrived upon Mount Zion.

Psalm 74. C. Full chorus of thanksgiving and praise, when the ark, borne by the priests and levites, at length crossed the threshold, and entered the court of the tabernacle in presence of all Israel, and of all the strangers within the gates.

Psalm 75. XLVII. Noble anthem of praise,

when the ark being entered into the tabernacle, was deposited in the sanc

tuary, amidst the clangor of trumpets and the shouts of the people.

SECTION IV.

Psalms composed by David, and sung after the ark was placed in the sanctuary of the tabernacle erected for it by David upon Mount Zion, and during the offerings of sacrifice and burnt offering which were then offered by Israel as a thanksgiving. 2 Sam. vi. 17-19.

Psalm 80. XCIX. Anthem declaring the supreme majesty and holiness of God, and the holiness required of his worshippers.
