people, from far; The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.

2 And he hath made my mouth like a fharp fword; in the fhadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polifhed fhaft; in his quiver hath he hid me,

3 And faid unto me, Thou art my fervant, O Ifrael, in whom I will be glorified.

4 Then I faid, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my ftrength for nought, and in vain; yet furely my judgment is with the Lord, and my work with my God.

5 And now, faith the Lord, that formed me from the womb to be his fervant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Ifrael be not gathered, yet fhall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and my God fhall be my ftrength.

6 And he faid, It is a light thing that thou fhouldeft be my fervant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to reftore the preferved of Ifrael:

I will alfo give thee for a
light to the Gentiles, that
thou mayeft be my falvation
unto the end of the earth.
7. Thus faith the Lord,
the redeemer of Ifracl, and
his Holy One, to him whom
man defpifeth, to him whom
the nation abhorreth, to a
fervant of rulers; Kings fhall
fee and arife; princes alfo
fhall worship, becaufe of
the Lord that is faithful, and
the Holy One of Ifrael, and
he fhall choose thee.

8 Thus faith the Lord, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of falvation have I helped thee: and I will preferve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to caufe to inherit the defolate heritages;

high-ways fhall be exalted.

12 Behold, these fhall come from far: and lo, these from the north and from the

weft, and these from the land of Sinim.

13 Sing, O heavens, and be joyful, O earth, and break forth into finging, O mountains: for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

14 But Zion faid, The Lord hath forfaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.

15 Can a woman forget her fucking child, that the fhould not have compaffion on the fon of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands, thy walls are continually before me.

17 Thy children fhall make hafte; thy deftroyers, and they that made thee wafte, fhall go forth of thee.

9 That thou mayeft fay to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darknefs, Shew yourselves. They fhall feed in the ways, and their paftures shall be in all high places. 18 Lift up thine eyes 10 They fhall not hun-round about, and behold: ger nor thirst; neither fhall all thefe gather themselves the heat nor fun fmite them: together, and come to thee: for he that hath mercy on as I live, faith the Lord, thou them fhall lead them, even fhalt furely clothe thee with by the fprings of water fhall them all, as with an ornahe guide them. ment, and bind them on thee as a bride doth.

defolate places, and the land of thy destruction fhall even now be too narrow by reafon of the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up fhall be far away.

20 The children which thou fhalt have, after thou haft loft the other, fhall fay again in thine ears, The place is too ftrait for me give place to me, that I may dwell.

21 Then fhalt thou fay in thine heart, Who hath begotten me thefe, feeing I have loft my children, and am defolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up thefe? Behold, I was left alone, thefe, where had they been?

22 Thus faith the Lord God, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and fet up my ftandard to the people and they fhall bring 'thy fons in their arms, and thy daughters fhall be carried upon their shoulders.

23 And kings fhall be thy nurling-fathers, and their queens thy nurfing-mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the duft of thy feet, and thou fhalt know that I am the Lord: for they fhall not be ashamed that wait for me.

24 Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?

25 But thus faith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty fhall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible fhall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will fave thy children.

26 And I will feed them that oppress thee, with their own fiefh, and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with fweet wine : and all flefh fhall know that I the Lord am thy faviour and thy redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
