slow to anger and plentious in mercy, even to thy disobedient children; and Thou wilt abundantly pardon all those who forsake their iniquities and turn from the error of their ways.

I praise and give thanks unto Thee, O Lord, for all the aid and encouragement Thou hast granted to mankind by Jesus Christ, for the attainment of thy favour and everlasting salvation. I would rejoice in thy universal government, and confess my great and numerous obligations to Thee; yea, with my whole heart I desire to be truly thankful for all the riches of thy grace," and all the bounties of thy providence, which thou hast bestowed upon ine from the time I began to breathe the breath of life, to the present moment.

I lament and beseech Thee to forgive my unworthiness, and pray that I may act a wiser and better part for the time to coinc. May I live under an habitual sense of my dependence upon Thee my God, and always maintain such grateful love and reverence towards Thee, as shall engage me to obey thy will in all things, and to delight myself in a growing acquaintance with my duty, and a more faithful and cheerful practice of

it in all its branches. May I be daily improving in fervent piety towards Thee, my heavenly father, and in a cordial and extensive benevolence towards all my fellow-creatures. May I continually endeavour to prove myself the genuine disciple of Jesus Christ, by loving and doing good, as I have opportunity, to all around me; always keeping in mind the assurance which he gave to those who believed in him, that all men should know them to be his disciples by the love they cherished one towards another,

Give me grace, O thou great searcher of hearts, who requirest truth and sincerity in the secret recesses of the soul,-to be pure in heart to walk circumspectly-and to maintain my integrity through the whole of my future life. Enable and dispose me to correet every evil habit and irregular propensity -to cleanse myself from all impurity both of flesh and spirit; and to advance and improve more and more in knowledge and virtue-in truth and holiness-in piety and entire devotedness to thy service.

But, O Thou father of the universe! I would not confine my prayers to myself, but most humbly beseech Thee to extend thy favour even to the remotest part of the

habitable earth.

May the nations everywhere know, love, and obey Thee, the only living and true God, through Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent. Be mindful, O Thou God of all compassion, of all that are in poverty, sorrow, trouble, or distress of any kind. I would sympathize with all under their several afflictions, and humbly recommend their different circumstances to Thee the Lord our God, praying that every afflictive dispensation of thy providence may be sanctified to them, and that in a short time Thou wouldest remove their sicknesses, and put an end to their sorrows.

Hear my prayer, most gracious God!strengthen my weakness--supply my deficiencies -absolve me from my sins, and fulfil the desires of my heart as far as Thou seest it to be good for me. In Thee, O thou God of all benevolence! are all my hopes, both as to this and a future state. To Thee, therefore, my humble request is, that Thou wouldst guide me, by thy counsel, in all the varying circumstances of life, crown my righteous endeavours with thy blessing through the whole of my future days, and, finally, bring me to thy kingdom of glory above.

spirit of whose gospel I would ascribe, as being most justly due, unto Thee the only living and true God the father of all in heaven and on earth-the fulness of all power, and the glory of infinite perfection, for ever. Amen.

FIFTH ADDRESS.

O ALMIGHTY and eternal God! under a deep sense of thy adorable excellencies and perfections, and of my own insufficiency and insignificance, I would now adore, with all possible veneration, thine incomprehensible majesty and thy infinite perfections. To Thee I owe all that I am ----all that I know-all that I possess, and all I can hope for. All the powers, capacities, and abilities of my mind all the advantages of my nature-all my connections in social life-all the different relations in which I stand to Thee, to my fellow-creatures, and to every thing around me proceed from thy sovereign goodness, and bear testimony to thy adorable benevolence and compassion.

Thy mercies and benefits surround me on every side; they loudly call upon me to celebrate thy praise, and to give thanks unto Thee, O Thou most high.

Thou hast placed me in an enlightened part of the world, where I am surrounded with fellow-creatures, who know Thee as their God and father, from whom I derive
