How far from this, our daily life!
By sudden, wild alarms :
On Thine almighty arms!
UT thou thy trust in God;
In duty's path go on;
So shall thy work be done.
Thy work into his hands;
Who heaven and earth commands.
His covenant shall endure;
The promised grace is sure.
His power shall clear thy way:
Shall end in brightest day.
YIVE to the winds thy fears;
God hears thy sighs and counts thy tears,
God shall lift up thy head.
Through waves, and clouds, and storms,
He gently clears thy way:
Soon end in joyous day.
Still sink thy spirits down?
Bid every care be gone.
Yet heaven, and earth, and hell
And ruleth all things well.
To choose and to command;
How wise, how strong his hand.
Our hearts are known to thee;
Confirm the feeble knee.
Thy steadfast truth declare,
Thy love and guardian care.
YOMMIT thou all thy griefs
into his hands, To his sure truth and tender care,
Who earth and heaven commands:
Who points the clouds their course,
Whom winds and seas obey :
He shall prepare thy way.
By self-consuming care :
Attends the softest prayer.
What shall thy work withstand ?
And who shall stay thy hand ?
And all things serve thy might;
Thy path, unsullied light.
145 TRUST in the Lord;—his grace abounding,
Shall succour thee in time of need; His mighty arm, thy foes confounding,
Shall all thy steps in safety lead. Trust in the Lord—in days of sorrow,
And meekly tread the thorny way; It may
be thou wilt see to-morrow The love that chastens thee to-day. Trust in the Lord-in hours of gladness
Nor let thy heart be lifted up; In wisely mingled joy and sadness
'Tis He that portions out thy cup.
Trust in the Lord—when flesh is failing,
And slowly ebbs thy faltering breath; His grace, o'er all thy sins prevailing,
Sufficeth thee in life and death.
OD is my strong salvation, In darkness and temptation,
My light, my help is near: Though hosts encamp around me,
Firm to the fight I stand : What terror can confound me,
With God at my right hand ? Place on the Lord reliance;
My soul, with courage wait:
When faint and desolate.
His love thy joy increase :
The Lord will give thee peace. 147
, Who makes your cause his own; The hope that's built upon his word
Can ne'er be overthrown.
And feeble is your arm,
Beyond the reach of harm.
Weak as you are you shall not faint;
Or fainting, shall not die.
Will aid you from on high.
Faith sees him always near, A guide, a glory, a defence :
Then what have you to fear? As surely as he overcame,
And triumph'd once for you; So surely you that love his name,
Shall through him triumph too.
The eternal hills beyond the skies; Thence all her help my soul derives; There mine Almighty refuge lives. He lives; the everlasting God, That built the world, that spread the flood; The heavens with all their hosts he made, And the dark regions of the dead. He guides our feet, he guards our way; His morning smiles bless all the day; He spreads the evening veil, and keeps The silent hours while Israel sleeps. Israel, a name divinely blest, May rise secure, securely rest; Thy holy Guardian's wakeful eyes Admit no slumber nor surprise.
