2 Be the harp no longer mute;

Sound the trumpet, touch the lute, Wake to life each tuneful string,

Bring the pipe, the timbrel bring. 3 All who vital breath enjoy,

In His praise that breath employ; And in one great chorus join ;

Praise, O praise the name divine! & Praise the name of God most high !

Praise Him, all below the sky!
Praise Him, all ye heavenly host,
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost !

[blocks in formation]

God hath set us all our parts:
He who gave us breath to sing
Bids our raptur'd souls take wing:
Rising on the notes of praise,
Upward to His throne they go:
O'tis blessedness to raise

His hosannas here below,
2 But, if we should hold our peace,

Deem not that the song would cease:
Angels round His glory-throne,
Stars, His guiding hand that own,
Flowers that grow beneath our feet,
Stones that deep in darkness rest,
Shall in wondrous chorus meet,

Ere His name shall be unbless'd. 3 Art thou silent, church of God ?

Thou that wast redeem'd by blood ?
Let the angels hear again
Thine old hallelujah strain.

Raise on high thy ransom-song,
Fervid, ringing, clear, and pure.
Lord, unloose our stammering tongue,

Or, elsewhere--Thy praise secure. 4 Waken into sounds divine

E'en the pavement of Thy shrine,
Till, like heaven's star-sprinkled floor,
We give back, what we adore;
Childlike though our voices be
And untunable the parts,
Thou wilt own the minstrelsy,
If it flow from childlike hearts.

Psalm cxlviii. 1, 2. L.M. * BOThoh rather of Eternity:

OTH heaven and earth do worship Thee, With splendour from Thy glory spread,

Are heaven and earth replenished. 2 To Thee all angels loudly cry,

The heavens and all the powers on high,
The apostles' glorious company,

The prophets' fellowship, praise Thee. 3 The noble and victorious host

Of martyrs make of Thee their boast;
The holy church in every place

Throughout the earth exalts Thy praise. 4 From day to day, O Lord, do we

Highly exalt and honour Thee;
Thy name we worship and adore,

World without end for evermore.
5 Vouchsafe, O Lord, we humbly pray,

To keep us safe from sin this day :
O Lord, have mercy on us all ;
Have mercy on us when we call

Rev. iv. 8.

L. M. 1

, TWe praise Thy name with one accord ; Thy saints, who here Thy goodness see,

Through all the world do worship Thce. 2 To Thee aloud all angels cry,

And ceaseless raise their songs on high ; Cherub and seraph, height o'er height,

The heavens and all the powers of light. 3 The apostles join the glorious throng ;

The prophets swell the immortal song,
The martyrs' noble army raise

Eternal anthems to Thy praise. 4 Thee, Holy, Holy, Holy King ;

Thee, the Lord God of Hosts they sing ; Through earth below, and heaven above, Resound Thy glory and Thy love,

Infinite leagues beyond the bounds,

Where stars revolve their little rounds. 2 Lord, how can earth and ashes raise

A tribute equal to Thy praise ?
From sin and dust to Thee we cry,

The Great, the Holy, and the High.
3 Earth from afar has heard Thy fame,

And men have learnt to lisp Thy name: But O the glories of Thy mind

Leave all our soaring thoughts behind. 4 God is in heaven, and men below:

Be short our tunes, our words be few;
A sacred reverence checks our songs,
And praise sits silent on our tongues.

Genesis xxxl, 42. OLIVER 1 \HE God of Abraham praise,

Who reigns enthron'd above;
Ancient of everlasting days,

And God of love.
Jehovah, great I AM!

By earth and heaven confess'd :
We bow and own the sacred name,

For ever bless'd.
2 The God of Abraham praise,

At whose supreme command
From earth we rise, and seek the joys

At His right hand.
We all on earth forsake,

Its wisdom, fame, and power;
And Him our only portion make,

Our shield and tower.
3 The God of Abraham praise,

Whose all-sufficient graco
Shall guide us through the wilderness,

To see His face.
He is our faithful friend ;

He is our gracious God;
And He will save us to the end,

Through Jesus' blood.
4 He by Himself hath sworn,

We on His oath depend,
We shall, on eagle-wing upborne,

To heaven ascend :
We shall behold His face,

We shall His power adore,
And sing the wonders of His grace

For evermore.
5 The whole triumphant host

Give thanks to God on high :
Hail, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost !

They ever cry.
