395 Acts il. 1–4. D.S.M. MONTGOMERY.
1 ORD God, the Holy Ghost,
In this accepted hour,
Descend in all Thy power.
In our appointed place,
The Spirit of all grace.
Upon the waves beneath,
One soul, one feeling breathe ;
With wisdom from above;
To pray, and praise, and love. 3 Spirit of light, explore
And chase our gloom away,
Unto the perfect day.
In life and death, our guide
May we be sanctified. 396 Acts 1. 4.
4. C. M. HUMPHRIES. 1
TINTHRONED on high, Almighty Lord, Fulfil in us Thy faithful word,
And all Thy mercies crown.
Their wondrous powers impart,
Thy Spirit in our heart.
3 Spirit of life, and light, and love,
Thy heavenly influence give: Quicken our souls, born from above,
In Christ, that we may live. 4 To our benighted minds reveal
The glories of His grace ;
The brightness of His face.
Life's ever-springing well; Till God in us, and we in God,
In love eternal dwell.
John xiv, 16.
188.8.131.52. ME to our poor nature's night
Holy Ghost the Infinite;
Sick and faint-Thy strength afford :
Give us from Thy heavenly store
Guide, subdue our wayward will,
Make Thy temple in each breast
6 In us, for us, intercede,
And with voiceless groanings, plead
With His Father ever one
Earnest of our bliss on high;
Bear us up the starry road,
Eph. 1. 17. S. M. HART. 1
Let Thy bright beams arise.
All darkness from our eyes. 2 Convince us of our sin;
Then lead to Jesus' blood;
The secret love of God.
Our doubts and fears remove;
Of never-dying love.
To sanctify the soul,
And new-create the whole.
L. M. 1 COME, haly Ghost, and through each
heart In Thy full flood of glory pour ; Who, with the Son and Father, art
One Godhead bless'd for evermore. 2 So shall voice, mind, and strength conspire
Thy praise eternal to resound:
And kindle every heart around.
Hear us, O sole begotten Son ;

401 Heb. 1. 1.
L. M. CONDER GOD, who didst Thy will unfold
By dream, by oracle, or seer :
2 What though no answering voice is heard,
Thine oracles, the written word,
Responsive to the upright heart. 3 What though no more by dreams is shown,
That future things to God are known,
Wisdom and love the rest conceal. 4 Faith asks no signal from the skies,
To show that prayers accepted rise;
And answers from the throne of graco. 6 No need of prophets to inquire :
The sun is risen; the stars retire.
His holy unction on our heads. 6 Lord, with this grace our hearts inspire ;
Answer our sacrifice by fire;

C. M. COWPER. IE Spirit breathes upon the word, Precepts and promises afford
A sanctifying light.
Majestic, like the sun :
It gives, but borrows none.
The gracious light and heat. His truths upon the nations rise :
They rise, but never sot.
