THE 8 O cleanse me from my secret faults ; Mine only Lord Thou art; That would enthral my heart. 9 So, stainless in my Maker's sight, And whole, may I appear; For ever wash'd and clear: And every breathed word, And my redeeming Lord. 19 PSALM XIX. L. M. WATTS 1 THE heavens declare Thy glory, Lord, In every star Thy wisdom shines; We read Thy name in fairer lines, And nights and days Thy power confess; Reveals Thy justice and Thy grace. Round the whole earth, and never stand 3 It touch'd and glanc'd on every land. 4 Nor shall Thy spreading gospel rest, Till through the world Thy truth has run; That see the light and feel the sun. 5 Great Sun of righteousness, arise, Bless the dark world with heavenly light; 6 Thy noblest wonders here we view, In souls renew'd, and sins forgiven : 20 , PSALM XIX. D. L. M. ADDISON. 1 HE With all the blue ethereal sky, And spangled heavens, a shining frame, Their great Original proclaim. The unwearied sun, from day to day, Doth his Creator's power display, And publishes to every land The work of an Almighty hand. The moon takes up the wondrous tale And spread the truth from pole to pole. 3 What though in solemn silence all Move round this dark terrestrial ball; 21 1 PSALM XIX. 113th M. WATTS. REAT God, the heavens' well order'd frame Declares the glories of Thy name; There Thy rich works of wonder shine ; G A thousand starry beauties there, Of boundless power and skill divine. 2 From night to day, from day to night, Lectures of heavenly wisdom read; And neither sound nor language need. 3 Yet their divine instructions run Far as the journeys of the sun, And every na know th voice : Thesun, like someyoung bridegroom dress'd, Breaks from the chambers of the east, Rolls round, and makes the earth rejoice, 4 Where'er he spreads his beams abroad, He smiles and speaks his Maker God; All nature joins to shew Thy praise : Thus God in every creature shines ; Fair is the book of nature's lines, But fairer is Thy book of grace. 5 I love the volumes of Thy word ; What light and joy those leaves afford To souls benighted and distress'd ! Thy precepts guide my doubtful way, Thy fear forbids my feet to stray, Thy promise leads my heart to rest. 6 Thy threatenings wake my slumbering eyes, And warn me where my danger lies; But 'tis Thy blessed gospel, Lord, That makes my guilty conscience clean, Converts my soul, subdues my sin, And gives a free but large reward. 7 Who knows the errors of his thoughts? My God, forgive my secret faults, And from presumptuous sins restrain : Accept my poor attempts of praise, That I have read Thy book of grace, And book of nature, not in vain. 22 PSALM IS. 7.6.7.6.7.7. CONDER. 1 N the day of thy distress, May Jehovah hear thee! Jacob's God be near thee! Timely aid, or strengthening grace ! 2 May thy prayers and offerings rise, By thy God recorded ! Graciously rewarded ! All thy purposes be blest! We with glad acclaim In Jehovah's name. And the Lord fulfil thy prayer ! S. M. WATTS. 1 HE Lord my Shepherd is, THE I shall be well supplied ; Since He is mine, and I am Hís, What can I want beside ? 2 He leads me to the place Where heavenly pasture grows, Where living waters gently pass, And full salvation flows. 3 If e'er I go astray, He doth my soul reclaim; For His most holy name. 4 While He affords His aid I cannot yield to fear; dark shade, Thou dost my table spread; My cup with blessings overflows, And joy exalts my head. 6 The bounties of Thy love Shall crown my following days; Nor from Thy house will I remove, Nor cease to speak Thy praise. 24 PSALM XXIIL C. M. WATTS. 1 M'Jehovah is His name; In pastures fresh He makes me feed, Beside the living stream. When I forsake His ways; In paths of truth and grace. 3 When I walk through the shades of death, Thy presence is my stay; Drives all my fears away. Doth stíll my table spread; My cup with blessings overflows, Thine oil anoints my head. |
