A very long or complex subject should be followed by a comma. A relative clause when not restrictive, should be set off by commas. When in a compound sentence the predicate verb is omitted from the second or any following member, mark its place by a comma. The Dash.-A dash is used to mark a sudden change in the construction or thought of a sentence. A dash may be used before a statement of particulars. The Parenthesis.—Marks of parenthesis are used to separate expressions inserted in the body of a sentence, but having no essential connection with it.
