And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. And David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with 13 joy. And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling. 14 And David danced before the

LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen 15 ephod. So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. 16 And it was so, as the ark of the

LORD came into the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart. 17 And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in its place, in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. 18 And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the 19 LORD of hosts. And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, both to men and women, to every one a cake of bread, and a portion 1of flesh, and a cake of raisins.

So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the house of Obed-edom 26 with joy and it came to pass,

when God helped the Levites that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that they sacrificed seven bullocks and seven rams. 27 And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of 'the song with the singers and David had upon 28 him an ephod of linen. Thus

all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, sounding aloud 29 with psalteries and harps. And

it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David dancing and playing; and she despised him in her heart. 16 And they brought in the ark of

God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings be2 fore God. And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the 3 name of the LORD. And he dealt to every one of Israel, both man and woman, to every one a loaf of bread, and a portion 2 of flesh, and a cake of raisins.

And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, and to celebrate and to thank and praise the LORD, the God 5 of Israel: Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, 'Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed-edom, and Jeiel, with psalteries and with harps: and Asaph with 6 cymbals, sounding aloud; and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually, before the ark of the covenant of God.

7

Then on that day did David 'first ordain to give thanks unto the LORD, by the hand of Asaph and his brethren.

8 O give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name;

Make known his doings among the peoples.

Sing unto him, sing praises unto him;

*Talk ye of all his marvellous works.

Glory ye in his holy name:

Let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
Seek ye the LORD and his strength;

Seek his face evermore.

Remember his marvellous works that he hath done;
His wonders, and the judgements of his mouth ;
O ye seed of Israel his servant,

Ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
He is the LORD our God:

His judgements are in all the earth.

Remember his covenant for ever,

The word which he commanded to a thousand generations;
The covenant which he made with Abraham,

And his oath unto Isaac;

And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a statute,

To Israel for an everlasting covenant:

Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan,
The 'lot of your inheritance:

When ye were but a few men in number;
Yea, very few, and sojourners in it;

And they went about from nation to nation,
And from one kingdom to another people.
He suffered no man to do them wrong;
Yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;
Saying, Touch not mine anointed ones,
And do my prophets no harm.

Sing unto the LORD, all the earth;

Shew forth his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations,

His marvellous works among all the peoples.

For great is the LORD, and highly to be praised:
He also is to be feared above all gods.

For all the gods of the peoples are 'idols:

But the LORD made the heavens.

Honour and majesty are before him:
Strength and gladness are in his place.

Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the peoples,
Give unto the LORD glory and strength.

Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name:
Bring an offering, and come before him:

Worship the LORD 'in the beauty of holiness.

Tremble before him, all the earth:

The world also is stablished that it cannot be moved.

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;

And let them say among the nations, The LORD reigneth.

Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof;

Let the field exult, and all that is therein;

Then shall the trees of the wood sing for joy before the LORD,
For he cometh to judge the earth.

20 give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good:

For his mercy endureth for ever.

And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation,

And gather us together and deliver us from the nations,

To give thanks unto thy holy name,

And to triumph in thy praise.

Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel,

From everlasting even to everlasting.

And all the people said, Amen, and praised the LORD.

So he left there, before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every day's 38 work required: and Obed-edom with their brethren, threescore and eight; Obed-edom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be door39 keepers and Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the 40 tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at Gibeon, to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of burnt offering continually morning and evening, even according to all that is written in the law of 41 the LORD, which he commanded unto Israel; and with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, who were expressed by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever; 42 and with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should sound aloud, and with instruments for the songs of God and the sons of Jeduthun to be at the gate.

of Israel to-day, who uncovered himself to-day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly 21 uncovereth himself! And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me above thy father, and above all his house, to appoint me prince over the people of the LORD, over Israel therefore will I play be22 fore the LORD. And I will be yet more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: but of the handmaids which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be 23 had in honour. And Michal the

daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death. 7 And it came to pass, when the king dwelt in his house, and the LORD had given him rest from 2 all his enemies round about, that the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains. 3 And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; 4 for the LORD is with thee. And it came to pass the same night, that the word of the LORD came 5 unto Nathan, saying, Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an 6 house for me to dwell in? for I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle. 7 In all places wherein I have

walked with all the children of Israel, spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedar?

And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God 4 came to Nathan, saying, Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build 5 me an house to dwell in: for I

8 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the 'sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my 9 people, over Israel: and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a great name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the IO earth. And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as at the first, II and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I 3will cause thee to rest from all thine enemies. Moreover the LORD telleth thee that the LORD will make 12 thee an house. When thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build an house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. 14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of 15 the children of men; but my mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I 16 put away before thee.
