According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

Then David the king went in, and sat before the LORD; and he said, Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that thou 19 hast brought me thus far? And this was yet a small thing in thine eyes, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come; 'and this too after the manner of men, O Lord GOD! 20 And what can David say more

unto thee? for thou knowest thy 21 servant, O Lord GOD. For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make thy 22 servant know it. Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with 23 our ears. "And what one nation

in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, and to make him a name, and to do great things for you, and terrible things for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee out of Egypt, from the nations and their gods? 24 And thou didst establish to thy

self thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God. 25 And now, O LORD God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, confirm thou it for ever, and do as thou hast spoken.

1 Or, and is this the law of man, O Lord GOD?

2 Or, And who is like thy people, like Israel, a nation that is alone in the earth &c.

Then David the king went in, and sat before the LORD; and he said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far? 17 And this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; but thou hast spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high 18 degree, O LORD God. What can David say yet more unto thee concerning the honour which is done to thy servant? for thou 19 knowest thy servant. O LORD, for thy servant's sake, and ac cording to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make known all these great 20 things. O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our 21 ears. 1And what one nation in

the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, to make thee a name by great and terrible things, in driving out nations from before thy people, which thou redeemedst out of 22 Egypt? For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, LORD, becamest their God.

26 And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is God over Israel: and the house of thy servant David shall be established before thee.

27 For thou, O LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant 'found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee. 28 And now, O Lord GOD, thou art God, and thy words are truth, and thou hast promised this good 29 thing unto thy servant: now

therefore 'let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.

And after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took the bridle of the mother city out of the hand of the Phi2 listines. And he smote Moab,

and measured them with the line, making them to lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death, and one full line to keep alive. And the Moabites became servants to David, and brought presents. 3 David smote also Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his dominion 4 at the River. And David took

from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David

And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, 2 that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan's sake? And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba, and they called him unto David; and the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he ✓ 3 said, Thy servant is he. And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, 'Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet. And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, 5 in Lo-debar. Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house 6 of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar. And Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came unto David, and fell on his face, and did obeisance. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he 7 answered, Behold thy servant! And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou

8 shalt eat bread at my table continually. And he did obeisance, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such 9 a dead dog as I am? Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's servant, and said unto him, All that pertained to Saul and to all his house Io have I given unto thy master's son. And thou shalt till the land for him, thou, and thy sons, and thy servants; and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master's son may have bread to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master's son shall eat bread alway at my table. II Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king commandeth his servant, so shall thy servant do. And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his 2 son reigned in his stead. And David said, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. So David sent by the hand of his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon. But the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David sent his servants unto thee to search the city, and to spy it out, and 4 to overthrow it? So Hanun took
