INDEX TO

FOREIGN WATERING PLACES.

IN order to render our work more complete, we have thought it advisable to include the better known centres of the continental countries, our reason for so doing being that many travellers, in passing through to one or other of the many watering places, would naturally wish to see a few of the treasures such cities as Paris and Rome contain; and, so wishing, we thought they would much prefer to have the whole of the information included within one pair of covers. This, we trust, will be accepted as a sufficient apology for our including other than watering places pure and simple. To render the index more clear to our readers, we may state that we commence with Putbus, as the most northern point, and following the north-western coast line, west by south, and along the northern shores of the Mediterranean, finish at Naples, on the south coast of Italy, thus enabling those travellers who desire to visit adjacent places to do so with facility. Inland watering places and centres are arranged alphabetically, as the frequent necessity of resorting to a centre in order to reach a desired spot would render any other arrangement somewhat complicated. Under the heading of "General Information," at the end of the volume, we have placed such items as are likely to prove of general service to tourists, viz., particulars of all the Routes to the Continent, Passports, Foreign Moneys (with their comparative values), Continental Weights and Measures, International Postage, and General Hints to Travellers Abroad.
