EPHESIANS. Duty of wives and busbands.

906 Against fornication.
through the ignorance that is in them,
because of the blindness of their heart:
19 Who being paft feeling have given
themselves over unto lafcivioufnels, to
work all uncleannefs with greediness.

20 But ye have not fo learned Chrift; 21 If fo be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jefus :

22 That ye put off concerning the former converfation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful Jufts;

25 And be renewed in the fpirit of your mind;

7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

8 For ye were fometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteoufnefs and truth :) 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

11 And have no fellow fhip with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

12 For it is a fhame even to speak of those things which are done of them in fecret. 24 And that ye put on the new man, 13 But all things that are reproved, are which after God is created in righteouf-made manifeft by the light for whatfonefs and true holiness. ever doth make manifeft is light.

25 Wherefore putting away lying, fpeak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

26 Be ye angry, and fin not let not the fun go down upon your wrath:

27 Neither give place to the devil. 28 Let him that tole fteal no more: but rather let him labour, working with bis hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the ufe of edifying, that it may minifter grace unto the hearers.

30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are fealed unto the day of redemption.

31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

S2 And be ye kind one to another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Chrift's fake hath forgiven you.

CHAP. V.

[blocks in formation]

2¶And walk in love, as Chrift alfo hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a facrifice to God for a fweet smelling favour.

S4 But fornication, and all uncleannefs, or covetoufnefs, let it not be once named among you, as becometh faints;

& Neither filthinefs, nor foolish talking, nor jetting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

14 Wherefore he faith, Awake thou that fleepeft, and arise from the dead, and Chrift hall give thee light.

15 See then that ye walk circumfpect. ly, not as fools, but as wife,

16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwife, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excefs; but be filled with the Spirit ;

19 Speaking to yourselves in pfalms and hymns and fpiritual fongs, finging and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father, in the name of our Lord Jefus Chrift;

21 Submitting yourfelves one to another in the fear of God.

22 Wives, fubmit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

25 For the hufband is the head of the wife, even as Chrift is the head of the church: and he is the faviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the church is fubject unto Chrift, so let the wives be to their own hufbands in every thing.

25 Hufbands, love your wives, even as Chrift alfo loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might fanctify and cleanse it with the wathing of water by the word;

27 That he might prefent it to himself a glorious, church, not having fpet, or wrinkle, or any fuch thing: but that it fhould be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

30 For we are members of his body, of his Heth, and of his bones.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own 5 For this ye know, that no whore-flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, monger, nor unclean perfon, nor covetous even as the Lord the church : man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Chrift and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words; for becaufe of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of difobedience.

31. For this cause thall a man leave his father and mother, and thall be joined unto his wife, and they two fhall be one fleth.

The duty of children.

Chap. i.

32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Chrift and the church.

33 Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular to love his wife even as himself; and the wife fee that the reverence ber husband.

CHILDREN, obey your parents in the
Lord for this is right.

2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promile; 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayeft live long on the earth.

4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your mafters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in fingleness of your heart, as unto Chrift;

6 Not with eyefervice, as menpleafers; but as the fervants of Chrift, doing the will of God from the heart;

7 With good will doing fervice, as to the Lord, and not to men:

8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the fame hall he receive of the Lord, whether be be bond or free. 9 And ye matters, do the fame things unto them, forbearing threatening, knowing that your Matter alfo is in heaven; neither is there refpect of perfons with him. 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to ftand against the wiles of the devil.

of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 ¶ Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to ftand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness :

15 And your feet thod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the field of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of falvation, and the fword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and fupplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perfeverance and fupplication for all faints :

19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the myftery of the gospel,

20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to fpeak.

21 But that ye alfo may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minifter in the Lord, thall make known to you all things:

22/ Whom I have fent unto you for the fame purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.

25 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jefus Chrift.

24 Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jefus Chrift in fincerity. Amen. Written from Rome unto the Ephefians by Tychicus.

THE EPISTLE OF PAUL TO THE PHILIPPIANS

CHAP. I.

1 Paul's thankfulness and prayers to God for the Philippians. 21 His readiness 10 juffer. 27 He exhorteth them to walk worthily.

PAUL and Timotheus, the fervants of Jefus Chrift, to all the faints in Chrift Jefus which are at Philippi, with the bithops and deacons :

2 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jefus Chrift.

3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

Always in every prayer of mine for you all, making request with joy, 5 For your fellowship in the gofpel from the first day until now;

10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be lincere and without offence till the day of Chrift;

11 Being filled with the fruits of righteonfnefs, which are by Jefus Chrift, unto the glory and praise of God.

15 Some indeed preach Chrift even of envy and fìrife; and fome alfo of good will:

18 What then? Notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence or in trath, Chrift is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

19 For I know that this hall turn to my falvation through your prayer, and the fupply of the Spirit of Jefus Chrift, 20 According to my earnett expectation and my hope, that in nothing I fhall be athamed, but that with all boldness, as always fo now allo Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

21

For to me to live is Chrift, and to die is gain.

22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I mail choofe, I wot not.

23 For I am in a ftrait betwixt two, having a delire to depart and to be with Chrift; which is far better:

21 Nevertheless, to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.

25 And having this confidence, I know that I thall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;

26 That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jefus Chrift for me by my coming to you again.

4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man alfo on the things of others.

5 Let this mind be in you, which was alfo in Chrift Jetus:

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a fervant, and was made in the likeness of then :

8 And being found in tathion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the crots.

9 Wherefore God alto hath highly ex alted him, and given him a name which is above every name :

10 That at the name of Jefus every knee thould bow, of things in heaven, and rings in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confels that Jefus Chrift is Lord, to the glo ry of God the Father

12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my pretence only, but now much more in my abfence, work out your own falvation with fear and trembling :

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which alfo I am apprehended of Chrift Jefus.

CHAP. III.

1 Paul warnerb them of falfe teachers, 18 and to decline the ways of carmal Chriftians.

FINALLY, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the fame things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you is fafe.

2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concifion.

3 For we are the circumcifion, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Chrift Jefus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

4 Though I might alfo have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might truft in the flesh, I more:

5 Circumcited the eighth day, of the ftock of Ifrael, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharitee;

6 Concerning zeal, perfecuting the church; touching the righteoufnefs which is in the law, blameless.

7 But what things were gain to me, thofe I counted lots for Chrift.

18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the crofs of Chrift:

19 Whofe end is deftruction, whose God is their belly, and whofe glory is in their fhame, who mind earthly things.

20 For our converfation is in heaven; from whence alfo we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jefus Chrift:

21 Who fhall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to fubdue all things unto himself.

COLOSSIANS.

Rejoice in the Lord always; and again 1 fay rejoice.

5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and fupplication, with thanksgiving, let your requeits be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God which paffeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Chrift Jelus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honelt, whatsoever things are jutt, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatfoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if abere be any praise, think on these things. 9 Thofe things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and feen in me, do; and the God of peace fall be with you.

10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the laft your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.

11 Not that I fpeak in refpect of want; for I have learned, in whatifoever ftate If am, there wurb to be content.

14 Notwithstanding, ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my af fiction.

15 Now, ye Philippians, know alfo, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.

16 For even in Theffalonica ye fent once and again unto my neceffity.

17 Not becaufe I defire a gift: but I defire fruit that may abound to your account.

18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were fent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a facrifice acceptable, well pleafing to God.

19 But my God fhall fupply all your need according to his riches in glory, by Chrift Jefus.

20 Now unto God and our Father, be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

21 Salute every faint in Chritt Jefus. The brethren which are with me greet you.

22 All the faints falute you, chiefly they that are of Cesar's household. 23 The grace of our Lord Jefus Chrift be with you all. Amen.
