Though only a Jewess orphan, she became, by awonderfulprovidence,the favorite of an eastern monarch, by whom her kindred were held in fearful subjection. Haman was that monarch'schief minister of state, and he required a homage, bordering on divine worship to be paid him by all the king's subjects.
