CHAP. IV.

An Exhortation to Obedience. 41 Mofes appointeth the three Cities of Refuge on that fide Jordan.

Ver. 1 WOW therefore HEARKEN, O ISRAEL, unto the STATUTES, and unto the Judgments which I teach you, for to do them that ye may LIVE, and go in and poffefs the Land which the LORD GOD of your Fathers giveth you.

2 Ye shall not ADD unto the WORD which I command you, neither fhall you DIMINISH Ought from it, that ye may, KEEP the COMMANDMENTS of the LORD your GOD which I command you.

3 Your Eyes have feen what the LORD did because of Baal-peor: for all the Men that followed Baal-peor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you.

4 But ye that did CLEAVE unto the LORD your God, are alive every one of this you Day.

in this Book.

5 Behold, I have taught you STATUTES and Judgments, even as the LORD my GOD commanded me, that ye hould do fo in the Land whither ye go to poflefs it.

VENANT for ever: HOLY and REVEREND is his NAME.

10 The Fear of the LORD is the BEGINNING of WISDOM: a good Underftanding have all they that Do his COMMANDMENTS: his PRAISE ENDURETH for EVER.

Job xxviii. 28 And unto Man he faid, Behold, the FFAR of the LORD, that is WISDOM, and to DEPART from EVIL IS UNDERSTANDING.

7 e For what Nation is there fo great, who hath GOD fo NIGH unto them, as the LORD our God is in all Things that we CALL upon him for?

8 The STATUTES of the LORD are right, REJOYCING the HEART: the COMMANDMENT of the LORD is PURÉ,

9 The FEAR of the LORD is clean, ENDURING for ever: the JUDGMENTS of the LORD are TRUE and RIGHTEOUS altogether.

Prov. iii. My Son, forget not my LAW; but let thine HEART KEEP my COMMANDMENTS:

2 For length of Days, and long Life, and Peace fhall they add to thee.

23 Take heed unto yourfelves, left ye FORGET the COVENANT of the LORD your GOD, which he made with you, and make you a graven Image, or the Likeness of any Thing which the LORD thy GOD hath forbidden thee.

28 This alfo were an INIQUITY to be PUNISHED by the Judge; for I fhould have DENIED the GOD that

is ABOVE.

14 Fora much then as the Children are Partakers of Flesh and Blood, he alfo himself likewife took part of the fame: that through Death he might deftroy him that had the PowER of DEATH, that is, the DEVIL;

Is And DELIVER them who through FEAR of Death were all their Lifetime subject to BONDAGE.

24 For the LORD thy GOD is a CONSUMING FIRE, even a JEALOUS GOD.

25 When thou shalt beget Children, and Childrens Children, and fhalt have remained long in the Land, and fhall CORRUPT yourselves, and make a graven Image, or the Likeness of any thing, and fhall do EVIL in the Sight of the LORD thy GOD, to provoke him to Anger.

EARTH TO WITNESS againft you this Day, that ye fhall foon utterly PERISH from off the Land whereunto ye go over Jordan to poffefs it: ye fhall not prolong your Days upon it, but fhall utterly be

DESTROYED.

27 And the LORD fhall the SCATTER you among Nations, and ye fhall be left
