In a LETTER to a FRIEND,

SIR,
A S the design of the spirit of prophecy in the

Psalms appears to be generally very little

understood, and is at the fame time very - interesting ; and as I know of nothing that has been published among us in America that has a plain and easy tendency thereto, I thought it might be of use to take this method to communicate to the public what appears evident by comparing the Psalms one with another, and with the other feriptures; in which I can at the same time comply with your request, that I would communicate my thoughts to you upon them. And here I must acknowledge, that I have been somewhat assisted in my enquiry into the meaning of the Psalms, by a book entitled, The Psalter in its original forin, &c. written by Mr. GEORGE FENWICK, B. D, Rector of Hallaton in Leicestershire, printed at London, in the year 1759. And if I fhould have occasion, in the following treatise, to make use of any thing from him, or from any others who are acquainted with the original languages in which the bible was at first wrote, I shall introduce it with, or ánnex to it, these words, it is said, without any further reference thereto..
