22. These words spake his parents, because they feared the

Jews : for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man
did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of

the synagogue.
23. Therefore said his parents, He is of age ; ask him.
24. Then again called they the man that was blind, and

said unto him, Give God the praise : we know that this

man is a sinner.
25. , He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no,

I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was

blind, now I see.
26. Then said they to him again, What did he to thee?

how opened he thine eyes ?
27. He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did

not hear : wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also

be his disciples ?
28. Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple;

but we are Moses' disciples.
29. We know that God spake unto Moses : as for this fel-

low, we know not from whence he is.
30. The man answered, and said unto them, Why herein is

a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is,

and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
31. Now we know that God heareth not sinners : but if any

man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he
heareth.

Since the world began was it not heard that any man
opened the eyes of one that was born blind.
33. If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
34. They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altoge-

ther born in sins; and dost thou teach us? And they
cast him out ?

Christ declares that He is the true Shepherd.

before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his

voice.
5. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from

him : for they know not the voice of strangers.
6. This parable spake Jesus unto them; but they under-

stood not what things they were which he spake unto

them.

Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say
unto you, I am the door of the sheep:
8. All that ever came before me, are thieves and robbers;

but the sheep did not hear them.
9. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be

saved; and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10. The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill, and

to destroy ; I am come that they might have life, and that

they might have it more abundantly.
11. I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd giveth his
life for the sheep.

But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose
own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth
the sheep, and fleeth : and the wolf catcheth them, and

scattereth the sheep.
13. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and

careth not for the sheep.
14. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am

known of mine.
15. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father:

and I lay down my life for the sheep.

them also I must bring; and they shall hear my voice:

and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
17. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down

my life, that I might take it again.

self: I have power to lay it down, and I have power to
take it again. This commandment have I received of my

Father.

20. And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad:

why hear ye him?
21. Others said, These are not the words of him that hath

a devil: can a devil open the eyes of the blind?

Christ publicly asserts his Divinity.

John x. 22. And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication,

and it was winter.
23. And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch.
24. Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto

him, How long dost thou make us to doubt ? If thou be

the Christ, tell us plainly.
25. Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not:

the works that I do in näy Father's name, they bear wit

ness of me.
26. But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep,

as I said unto you.
27. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they

follow me:
28. And I give unto them eternal life: and they shall never

perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all;

and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 30.

I and my Father are one.
31.

Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
32. Jesús answered them, Many good works have I shewed

you from my Father ; for which of those works do ye

stone me ?
33. The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we

stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou,

being a man, makest thyself God.
34. Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I

said, Ye are gods?
35. If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God

came, and the Scripture cannot be broken ;
36. Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and

sent into the world, Thou blasphemest, because I said, I
am the Son of God?

John x. 37. If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not, Jerusalem.

38. But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the

works ; that ye may know and believe that the Father is
in me, and I in him..

SECTION XXII.
In consequence of the opposition of the Jews, Christ retires

beyond Jordan.

unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
25. When once the master of the house is risen up, and

hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and
to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us;
and he shall answer, and say unto you, I know you

not, whence ye are :
26. Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk

in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
27. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not, whence

ye are ; depart from me all ye workers of iniquity.
28. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when

shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the
prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves

thrust out.
29. And they shall come from the east, and from the west,

and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit

Luke xiv. 1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one

of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath-day,

that they watched him.
2. And, behold, there was a certain man before him

which had the dropsy.
3. And Jesus answering spake unto the Lawyers and Pha-

risees saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
4. And they held their peace. And he took him, and

healed him, and let him go :
5. And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have

an ass, or an ox, fallen into a pit, and will not straight

way pull him out on the sabbath day?
6. And they could not answer him again to these things.
7. And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden,

when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms;

saying unto them,
8. When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not

down in the highest room, lest a more honourable man
than thou be bidden of him ;

And he that bade thee and him, come and say to thee,
Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take

the lowest room.
10. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest

room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say
unto thee, Friend, go up higher : then shalt thou have
