VER. 12.

ACTS VIA 12-16.

̓Ακούσας δὲ Ἰακὼβ ὄντα σῖτα ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ, ἐξαπέστειλε τοὺς πατέρας ἡμῶν πρῶτον.

a But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.

Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another? And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live and not die. And Joseph's ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt,

VER. 13.

Καὶ ἐν τῷ δευτέρω, ἀνεγνωρίσθη Ἰωσὴφ τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς αὐτοῦ, καὶ φανερὸν ἐγένετο τῷ Φαραω τὸ γένος τοῦ Ἰωσήφ.

a And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; b and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh.

Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren. And he wept aloud and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard. And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph: doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence, Gen. xlv. 1-3.

And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh's house, saying, Joseph's brethren are come: And it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto thy brethren, This do ye; lade your beasts, and go, get you unto the land of Canaan; And take your father, and your households, and come unto me and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye shall eat the fat of the land, Gen. Flv. 16—18.

VER. 14.

̓Αποστείλας δὲ Ἰωσὴφ μετεκαλέσατο τὸν πατέρα αὑτοῦ Ἰακώβ, καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν συγγένειαν αὐτοῦ ἐν ψυχαῖς ἑβδομηκοντα. | πέντε.

a Haste ye, and go up to my father, Joseph, God hath made me lord of all and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not. And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast, Gen. xlv. 9-11. Now thou art commanded, this do ye; Take your waggons out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring your father, and come. Also regard not your stuff: for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours. And the children of Israel did so and Joseph gave them waggons, accord ing to the commandment of Pharaoh, and gave them provision for the way, 19-21.

VER. 24.

ἐποίησεν ἐκδίκησιν τῷ καταπονουμένω, πα Καὶ ἰδών τινα ἀδικούμενον ἐμύνατο, καὶ τάξας τὸν Αἰγύπτιον

By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, Heb. xi. 24.

VER.-22.

Καὶ ἐπαιδεύθη Μωσης πάση σοφίᾳ Αιγυπτίων· ἦν δὲ δυνατὸς ἐν λόγοις καὶ ἐν ἔργοις.

And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.

VER. 23.

For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not,

Τῇ τε ἐπιούσῃ ἡμέρᾳ ὤφθη αὐτοῖς μα χομένοις, καὶ συνήλασεν αὐτοὺς εἰς εἰρήνην, εἰπών· "Ανδρες αδελφοί ἐστε ὑμεῖς· ἱνατί ddixeïтe dλλhλovs ;

And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? Intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known, Exod. ii. 14.

a Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons.

a Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian, Exod. ii. 15. And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter. And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom; for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land, 21, 22.

VER. 30.

Καὶ πληρωθέντων ἐτῶν τεσσαράκοντα, ὤφθη αὐτῷ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τοῦ ὄρους Σινά ἄγγελος Κυρίου ἐν φλογὶ πυρὸς βάτου.

Ἰακώβ. *Έντρομος δὲ γενόμενος Μωσης οὐκ ἐτόλμα κατανοῆσαι,

a Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

a Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God, Exod. iii. 6.

VER. 33.

Εἶπε δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ Κύριος Λύσον τὸ ὑπό δημα τῶν ποδῶν σου· ὁ γὰρ τόπος ἐν ᾧ ἕστηκας, γῆ ἁγία ἐστίν.

a Then said the Lord to him, Put οf thy shoes from thy feet : for the place where thou standest is holy ground.

a And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet; for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground, Exod. iii. 5.

VER. 34.

Ἰδὼν εἶδον τὴν κάκωσιν τοῦ λαοῦ μου τοῦ ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ, καὶ τοῦ στεναγμοῦ αὐτῶν ἤκουσα, καὶ κατέβην ἐξελέσθαι αὐτούς· καὶ νῦν δεῦρο, ἀποστελῶ σε εἰς Αἴγυπτον.

a I have seen, I have seen the afflic

tion of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, , I will send thee into Egypt.

a And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their task-masters; for I know their sorrows; And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring

them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey, unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. Come now, therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people, the children of Israel out of Egypt, Exod. iii. 7-10.

VER. 35.

Τοῦτον τὸν Μωϋσῆν ὃν ηρνήσαντο, εἰπόν τες" Τίς σε κατέστησεν ἄρχοντα καὶ δικαστήν; τοῦτον ὁ Θεὸς ἄρχοντα καὶ λυτρωτὴν ἀπέστειλεν ἐν χειρὶ ἀγγέλου τοῦ ὀφθέντος αὐτῷ ἐν τῇ βάτῳ.

a This Moses whom they refused, say ing, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer bby the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.

and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea-shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies: And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice, xxii. 15-18. And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day, The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac ; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth, xlviii. 15, 16. Behold, I send an Angel before thee to into the place which I have prepared. keep thee in the way, and to bring thee Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him, Exod. xxiii. 20, 21. And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him: and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me : for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? Gen xvi. 7-13. And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD; for because thou hast done this thing, VOL. II.

over the angel, and prevailed: he wept and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth-el, and there he spake with us; Even the LORD God of hosts; The LORD is his memorial, Hos. xii. 3—5.

VER. 36.

Οὗτος ἐξήγαγεν αὐτοὺς, ποιήσας τέρατα καὶ σημεῖα ἐν γῇ Αἰγύπτου, καὶ ἐν ἐρυθρᾷ θαλάσσῃ, καὶ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ἔτη τεσ σαράκοντα.

a He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, b and in the wilderness forty years.
