(Continued.) up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send 14 pestilence among my people; if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent, unto the prayer that is made in this place. 16 For now have I chosen and] hallowed this house, that my name [may be] there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually. And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my 18 statutes and my judgements; then 19 And as for thee, if thou wilt 17 walk before me as David thy father walked, [in integrity of heart, and in uprightness,] to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my 5 statutes and my judgements; then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom [over Israel for ever]; according as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne 6 of Israel. But if ye turn away [from following me, ye or your children], and keep not my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but shall go and serve other gods, 7 and worship them: then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword 8 among all peoples: and though this house be so high, yet shall every one that passeth by it be astonished, [and shall hiss ;] and shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and 9 to this house? And they shall I will establish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel. We have in this passage a reiteration of the warnings given in Deut. 28. 37, and 29. 24-26. 10 A. 1 Kings 9. (Continuous.) And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, wherein Solomon had built [the two houses], the house of the LORD and the king's 11 house, [now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,] that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of 12 Galilee. [And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and 13 they pleased him not. And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of 14 Cabul, unto this day. And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold.] B. 2 Chron. 8. And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, wherein Solomon had built the house of the LORD, and his own house, 2. that the cities which Huram had given to Solomon, Solomon built them, and caused the children of Israel to dwell there. 3 [And Solomon went to Hamathzobah, and prevailed against it. 4 And he built Tadmor in the the tites, the Perizzites, Hivites, and the Jebusites, which were not of [the children of] 21 Israel; their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel were not able utterly to destroy, of them did Solomon raise a levy [of bond22 servants], unto this day". But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no bondservants; but they were men of war, [and his servants,] and [his] princes and his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his 23 horsemen. These were the chief officers that were over Solomon's work, five hundred and fifty, which bare rule over the people [that 24 wrought in the work]. 25 But unto this day. But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no bondservants [for his work]; but they were men of war, and.. princes of his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his 10 horsemen. [And] these were the chief officers of king Solomon, even two hundred and fifty, that bare rule over the people. 11. 12 And Solomon brought up Pharaoh's daughter out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: [for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy, whereunto the ark of the LORD hath come.] Then Solomon offered burnt offerings unto the LORD on the altar of the LORD, which he had built 13 [before the porch, even as the b LXX follows § 23. And they departed not from the commandment of the king unto the priests and Levites concerning any matter, or concerning the 16 treasures.
