Despite the title and the implications, this book does not espouse freedom OF religion & the corollary freedom FROM religion.
Instead it wonders how a land born of those fleeing the oppression of the Catholic (and other) churches has come to no longer tolerate the very religions the people came here to avoid. ( )

The faith that gave birth to tolerance is no longer tolerated! Ten Commandments taken down, "Under God" removed from Pledge, Prayer prohibited, Christmas carols disallowed... * How did America go from Pilgrims seeking freedom to express their Christian beliefs to today's discrimination against those very beliefs in the name of tolerance?
